  • Ouch. Very pretty frame.

  • Where are you based Pepperoni? If it's London's famous London, Witcomb Cycles would be able to help I'd think, there isn't much that they don't know or can't do with regard to repairing and building bike frames:

  • I'm sure Roberts in Croydon or Mario Vaz could sort you too.

  • contact the the boys at fixed gear london, ted will sort it. i wouldn't bother with full respray, may just clean up that side (as it's behind the cranks)

  • thanks for the infos, yeah, I'm in London's famous London.. as I'm living north i'll get in touch with the guys at fixed gear london first, and then, in case with witcomb..
    let's see what they'll say...
about the respray I was thinking to try to get a colour as close as possible and just paint the bit there... I like too much this fluo yellow, really 80's...

  • I can do for you.

  • WoW...
    when?

  • contact the the boys at fixed gear london, ted will sort it. i wouldn't bother with full respray, may just clean up that side (as it's behind the cranks)

    +1

  • WoW...
    when?

    where do you live?

  • I'm in north London, working long hrs tomorrow but almost free the day after...and, of course, easy if there's to wait, come along at weekend or anything else... just the idea of getting it sorted makes me smile!

  • just checked gots gas gots rod. i could come wednesday night?

  • wow, would be great.. if you prefer I can come to you...whatever is better for you!

  • Matey i will see if i get off early on wednesday.

  • Have you got one of those porta packs Brucy?

  • Yes.

  • sorry dude, saturday afternoon?

  • no problem! whenever is more suitable for you!

  • dude we still on for tomorow you want me to pick it up and fix it, or do it on site? by the way the gas is a ten note and a ten to smooth it down. im of the understanding you want minimal damage to the paint?

  • Hey everyone, fairly new to bike building and this forum, I managed to grab a cheap frame off ebay and am looking to build up a bike from scratch, respray etc.

    Here is the frame

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=330343665030

it needs a lug rebrazing the one between the top tube and the fork stem, is this difficult, also would this make a good racing bike?

Would it be expensive to rebraze? And where in London can I get it done?

Anyones thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • .99p? well done!

no idea about the brazing though

  • I think Vaz does some frame repair... not sure of his contact details - try searching for "Vaz"

...also he'll respray so you can get it done at the same time.

  • well there is £15 delivery on top but still £16 for a frame is a bad price?

  • Its not really a "racing bike", and "good" is quite subjective. Its 501 which is a lower quality tubing but not that bad.

Building from scratch will always cost alot more than you think, but is fun and a good learning curve.

  • oh so have i bought the wrong thing, balls. Anyway once rebrazed do you think I could sell it and get my money back?

  • NO!

If you're not going to keep I wouln't bother.

    1. You're going to have to phone around, ask for a quote etc.
    2. You're going to have to get it there
    3. You're going to have to pay for the work

All of the above cost time and money.

Disclaimer: I don't know much about repairing bikes, and can't see exactly what the damage is.

Also what exactly are you after?

    • a road frame for a bit with gears etc?
    • a fixed gear bike?
