  • and even if it was possible trying to get the bends exactly the same would need some proper tubing bending equipment and some serious skillz

  • Man, those skills must be serious if they need a z to pluralise them! ;-)

  • the first ill advised foray has gone very well - despite what i said - my impatience has far outweighed my prudance and i modded some alluminum maes into some rocking randonneurs in about 20 seconds if that - very symetrical - text book stuff

i'm trying to get pics up but the window for the attachment just bugs up - anyone know why?

  • here we go - one of these pairs used to be a maes until i gave it 'the treatment'.

    can you guess which pair?

p.s. sante anti porn on there too as i've just finished putting that together - Titanium ring and all OEM mirror crank bolt covers and ring bolts - what do you reckon? sante rules yes?

  • Have to admit, I thought you were talking about bending a bar from scratch! Glad to see these turned out ok although I would have liked to see someone take a straight piece of pipe and curve it into a set of bars!

Was this a foot on the clamp area, pull with the arms job?

  • i was talking about from scratch at first - but i just bent these to test the water -
i set up an engine sling over the shoulders and attached to one drop end and stood on the other drop end so that i could leg press the force whilst keeping back straight

  • Hmmm....I have some crash-bent GB handlebars that I need to ge back into shape. On Your Bike at London Bridge have said they can do it, but maybe I should try myself....

  • Wow. You crashed some three quid bars and you want to save some dough by bending them back yourself instead of replacing them.

    You just made my day.

  • I aim to please.

I would replace, but they have the little GB logo and map of the UK etched into them.....they're fierce.

  • It's not as good typed out, but this is what I do when people come up with this kinda idea in my bike shop (it's either riding bent forks or bent handlebars, but sometimes it's crashed carbon forks)

I lean back, look at their face from several angles and ask them why they don't like there face looking the way it does now, and whether they had thought about having plastic surgery as an alternative to extreme road rash?

I always do it with a smile, I'm really not trying to be mean, just graphic.

(BTW, Selim seems to think that it's to re-bend steel bars, I'm slightly skeptical but we both agree that if you've bent alloy bars, it's time for the recycling bin)
