  • Has anyone got one? Are they any good?

  • TT Tom has one which he races on at HH. For £225 it's an absolute steal.

  • Im seriously thinking of getting one. I never buy anything new, so its a big deal for me. From what I have read up they are made by Kinesis, out of decent aluminium which is considerably lighter than regular 7005. The finishing of the welds looks great, much better than more expensive frames Ive seen.

But really its a shot in the dark for me. The world of modern alu track frames & carbon forks etc.. If there was anyone more experienced in this kinda thing it would be good to get some advice.

I noticed that the frames have fairly compact dropouts (smaller than most steel frames) and they are non-replaceable. This is a concern for me, as I guess it is not designed to be ridden on the road. If they were to crack on the dropout it probably wouldnt be pheasible to fix.

  • Definitely PM TT Tom. He really likes his Nelson. I had a go last night at HH and it felt pretty nice. Am debating getting one myself although would only be using it on the track so have fewer concerns about road riding.

  • I have one of these frames. Built it up around 3 months ago and have only used it on the road. I really like it but only have a Lemond Fillmore to compare it to when riding fixed. It's light and stiff and well worth the money IMHO. My only slight concern has been aesthetically where the paint around the track ends flaked off at first use. Touched up with a bit of nail polish now and looks fine! Am in South East London area if anyone thinking of getting one fancies a spin...

  • I like mine a lot. Its very nice on the track, and I ride there and back on the road, 10 miles or so each way, so have done a few miles on the road too, feels nice there too. It is pretty tight, ie top tube is pretty short, on my 57cm frame the TT is only 54. It comes with drilled straight carbon forks, and head set. BB is british thread and seat tube is 27.2. So all straight forward there. BB is quite high, and fine for indoor tracks if you wnated.
The paint has chipped around the stays, but Im constantly taking the wheel off to change gears. No problem.
It also, strangley, has the rear drilled for a brake..... so you'll be fine there too ;-)
I cant beleive it was so cheap as it sure rides a treat.

  • The frame measurements confused me at first. I don't think the top tube is that short as the frame sizes are from bottom bracket centre to top of the seat tube, not top of top tube. The seat tube ends 2cm above the top tube so a 57cm equals a 55cm using the regular centre to top measurement. 54cm top tube on 55cm frame is average, no?

  • Yeah maybe for 'proper' track frames, but not, it seems for lower end track frames.
I also have a Dolan track frame which has a longer top tube than seat tube, at least 1cm if not 2! And that also has a good 1 or 1.5cm seat tube rise above the tt, Its more road geometry, the Nelson is much shorter. It is also shorter than a Fuji Track 56 frame, as myself and JJS were comparing them last night.

  • same with fuji track pro, the top tube is 59 c-c, and the seat tube is 57 c-c (on my 61cm frame, it's measured to the top of the seat tube which extends wuite far above the top tube juncture)

  • Yea I've got one of these, really like it. The toe overlap was a little daunting when I first got it, but it's super light and super stiff, great fun to ride. The only thing that gets my goat is the step from the head tube to the steerer tube, not the prettiest thing in the world.. but yea, I only ride mine on the road and it's great

  • Just resurrecting this to ask a question.

Im pretty much decided on getting one of these now and was just wondering about sizing. Its nice to hear that the top tube is uncommonly short compared to seatube as I think this would suit me perfectly.

I am 5'8" and currently ride a 56cm road frame. The seatube length is perfect for me but the frame is too long. I want to use drops but can never reach them comfortably even though I set my short stem very high.

So I think something 56cm seatube, and 53cm top tube could work. But I am very unfamiliar with actual track frame geometry and sizing. If anyone could help me sizing one up it would help greatly.

  • I'm really into one of these at the mo, but the paint is so fugly and the lack of steel inserts in the dropouts puts me off a bit. Still for the money it appears to be a great deal and I may yet overcome my doubts and order one. Up 'til the other day I was saving for a Dolan Track Champion frameset,or a Cannondale Capo to strip and rebuild with my own parts. Seems that I might be able to get something just as good for 1/3 to 1/2 the money.

As previously posted, anyone care to comment on sizing?

    Peace

    Kurt

  • I'm usually happy on a 56cm road frame. I have quite long legs to arm ratio compared to most people (more like a womans, so I was told :-\ and the 57cm is perfect for me. More comfortable than Ive ever been on a bike. (I'm just under 6ft)
There is a jump, I think, in their sizes, 54 then 57, which is a bit odd.

  • dfp, I'm between 5'8"-5'9" and 2 of my bikes are 52cm and 54cm sizes respectively, and they both fit me perfectly. A 56cm seems big, and I'm not surpised that you struggle to reach the drops.

I guess that makes it easier, ill get the 54cm and hope for the best! It has a 52.9cm top tube apparently which might be just right.

I might give them a ring on monday I think.

  • i'm going to get one of these mainly because of this in their "about us":

[SIZE=4]We do things professionally and assume that customers come to us to benefit from our skills and experience. If you intend coming to disagree with everything we say, either because you have been riding a bike for six months or have read some of the currently available cycling comics, then perhaps we are not the people for you. I´m just about the same size and thinking of buying a 57 myself. How´s the toe-overlap? Running 165 cranks. Cheers

I am 5'8" and used to ride a 56cm frame until I got properly measured at a bike shop when buying a new bike. I now ride a 53cm frame and it proved how wrong I was with the 56.
