Serious opinions, frame finish

Posted on
  • have refinished this raleigh 531 frame al a rusty, stripped. opinions needed as i am not 100%, could just get it stripped off and metalic grey powder coat, i know i need to htfu, but the taste level on this forum is pretty good. thanks in advance.
ps i was going to satin coat it, as opposed to gloss.

  • raleighs look good in red. plus red bikes go faster.

  • did you use a primer/undercoat?

  • Have you checked out the Armourtex respray gallery... might give you some ideas.

Powder coat is def the way to go. I've always liked pale orange (like the Gulf racing colours)...

...but seeing your bike gold might be a good option. Iether way I think old school bikes often look best in bright colours.

  • serious opinions, serious business.

  • this is the current finish, distressed/ rusty with a clear coat , does anyone like it, i am not sure now i have done it

  • Not too keen on it myself, doesn't help having to tilt my head to look at the pictures ;)

I had a frame glass blaster and lacquered by armourtex, will try and get the images up on that gallery later on, another place worth checking out is colourtec they do some work for 14 bike co, and are really helpful and offer more options than armourtex do.

  • everybody's opinions are different, choose for yourself

  • How much is the respray going to cost versus the cost of the frame?

  • hey slowstephen. same frame, same issues. cept ive decided on a the most putrid green i can find at armoutex. trying to decided what to do with all those redudant metal bits for wiring and brakes (lord knows what theyre called). reckon i can jus saw them off but dont know if im brave enough

always reckon white with funky wheels, bars, seat etc looks cool. as does light blue or graphite black. also gonna get some decals for mine.

  • randoneur frame 300-350 dorra, strip and powder job 50 dorra. just want it to look good...... getting it satin black powder.......fell better, thanks for advice.
davhimself...... gentle saw and file bits off, and buff up !
