that really highlights the limits of a fixed wheel bike.

Exactly, i think in the hills the fixed is bit pain... You can see that.

..yes but it also shows that it can be done - and the beauty an simplicity of the rides really shows through. These fucksers climbed mountains on those bikes!
Trailer?...for a longer peice. Not for the tour. I mean... did you really think that or were you trying to be funny?. It's weird as time goes on people don't seem to be able to just celebrate and enjoy people making rad films on bikes. There are always people moaning and picking...whatever dudes.... -

I like the fact that when I watch this, I can tell that they'll do much, much better on a geared bike and a lots faster (with brakes too).

yes...but thats not really the point of it!
half of them had brakes. Also nearly all of these guys are pretty serious road bikers too (with gears and brakes) -

no offense to the OP, but this is some of the most retarded shit i've seen in ages. it's like watching someone doing le mans in a horse and cart.

They'd also be much faster on a motorbike, in a car or in an aeroplane.

Also nearly all of these guys are pretty serious road bikers too (with gears and brakes)Of course, they wanted to do the Tour of California on fixed wheel bicycle, which is perfectly fine, and I admired them for doing it on a fixed wheel bicycle, but the point still stand, they will be faster and quicker on a geared, brakeful bike.
They'd also be much faster on a motorbike, in a car or in an aeroplane.
okay how that is an argument? we're talking about cycling, not motorised transport.

would rather watch the tour. it's more interesting and the standard of riding is better.
actually, i would rather read the fireflies and jonny/clintsmoker's alpine adventures too.why do they only show the spinny shit in the trailer? is it because the rest of it it is even duller? i can't be arsed to watch it all so maybe someone can let me know.

i watched the Mash film for the first time in ages last week and really enjoyed it. refreshing after all the posing fixie freestyle shit that's knocking round (oh shit what have i said?).

Just goes to show that fixedgear is only worthwhile on the track or the city, not on tours with miles and miles of open roads at your disposal
-
• #18
The original MASH vid is very good imo as it's street/city riding

true...but isn't that the case with all fixed videos??? macaframa etc???? I thought the point was that this is a fixed/ss site?? of course they would be faster on a geared bike? duh.

+1, just makes me want to get on my bike and ride as fast as I can to nowhere in particular.. I used to get that feeling as a kid about running and occasionally still do. Simple pleasures :D

huh? why? the climbing in the vid is arduos (as is climbing with a geared bike). The flats and downhills are fast and intense. I love riding fixed 'with miles and miles of open road at your disposal'. so all you guys just ride in the city? never really though of the distinction... I ride my bike....

I ride in the city and out of town BUT if I was touring for days/a week or more I would personally prefer to do it on gears, just seems odd to wanna have massive open roads and you get to the spinning point and know that you can't go any quicker, "Shit, wish I'd used gears now!", I've even done it myself...
Wasn't meaning to have a pop at you/them, just don't see the point. Bit like driving a Ferrari in 2nd gear -

don't agree...each to their own.
the whole idea of the tour was to do something in a fixed video that hasn't been done before and to tackle something really difficult...step things up a notch... whatever..

Yeah, whatever....as long as you and your mates enjoyed it :-)
New TOC trailer is up at the MASH site
