  • I thought everyone had got the memo. When your wheels are more expensive than your frame you suck. Fucking hate the colour aswell.

not necessarily, its often having a custom wheeleset cost more than the frame worth it.

its not a pretty build, sure, but i for one think its worth spending more in the wheel and tyre department than frame.
It is the wheels that keep you rolling, that's where you want to spend.

  • But surely a HED/Aerospoke combo is a little excessive at $1,200 on a Bianchi Pista for 'rollin in Dallas'.

But I do definatly agree when someones willing to spend a little more than $700 on a frame.

I guess I'm just jealous that he has that kinda money . . . Stupid rich hipsters . . .

what's the hell wrong with you? you usually rip their arses to piece and replaced them with funnel than defending them!

anyhow the frame is just a cheap steel with track geometry, nothing special about it at all, hell it's pretty heavy at 2.4-2.7kg (can't tell really, hasn't removed the BB from my frame).

im not defending that ugly hed/arrospok combo bike im defending people who spend more money on their wheels than on their frame.

    o, rly?

    P3 track = £2400
    Io/Comete set = £4000

  • thankk you. i was too lazy to make a deal out of it.

  • in racing, sure (especially those Lightweight wheel), but in normal bike, it's not necessary really.

  • Track frameset off fleabay £250
Decent Track wheelset with DA/Phil/Velocity or Hson and spokes £300+ don't forget building costs.

Modest 4130 or 7005 frame doesn't deserve Open Pro on Goldtec combo? At the daily driver end of the spectrum, I think I'd be at least as inclined to spend more on the wheels as I would on my race bike. A cheap frame will usually be robust, the same is less true for cheap wheels.

As stated by others, the HED/Spok combo sucks all by itself, and a pair of either would be overkill on a Bianchi, but given how cheap those Bianchi frames would be if sold as frameset, it would be hard to think of a wheelset you'd actually want to use which wouold be cheaper.

The key word is normal bike, you don't need to spend a bit more for that combination to keep your wheel reliable, all it take is the wheel to be build well and it still be enough for everyday riding.

  • I think everyone would love to have a go on that Lemond tandem..

  • MT's right on this

  • yeaha!

  • do people just google for bike anti-porn... then (obviously) get directed to this thread and just repost the pictures that have already been posted?

those bikes are pretty shocking though

  • pig pimped

    repost

    edit: beaten to it..

  • My bike:
Frame before paint - £20, with paint £88 total
    Back wheel - £120
    Front wheel - £10.

A £10 back wheel would have most certainly given up by now. My deepV is still perfectly round and true, and i expect it to be for many miles to come. I spent the money where it was best utilised. Price of this or that doesn't matter so much, as long as the end result looks fine and functions properly.

    fair play,
even the repost complaints end up as reposts

  • I'm saving up for this:

  • is that yours? (drool)

I wish. Just a random P3/Io/Comete to illustrate a point. Actually, the Io would be pointless for me as Cycling Time Trials has banned them.
