Typical French 'humour', mocking the brave endeavours of heroic explorers, men and women who have pointlessly walked, sledded and crawled through snow and ice for no good reason except vaingloriously to plant stupid flags in the middle of nowhere and to 'triumph'' over nature.
On a more serious note thanks V; good stuff. Makes me nostalgic for Paris though last time I was there I encountered some sort of shrunken humunculous clad in 'street wear' spouting football related banalities in English which rather spoiled the experience.
