I have been there and got the T-shirt, albeit with a Brooks B90 that is 90 years old next year. The inelegant solution is simply to stuff some neatly-folded old fabric (bit cut out of a towel is best) between the leather and the metalwork. There is a guy in the vintage bike world who can repair these but it is not cheap.
