  • Lost everyone almost immediately leaving Hackney cos of the traffic and number of bikes. Thinking people were in front of us I hauled arse trying to catch up, but soon realised I was probably ahead of them. Considered doing the decent thing and stopping to wait, but I was kinda happy motoring along so thought I'd keep the pace up for a while. Gormley came past looking like he meant business, so we hooked up and did the majority of the first half together, I only realised he'd dropped off when I noticed there were no longer any lights behind us.

Hit the road by meself again after a 30 min pit stop. Very few people around by then but I soon found another couple of equally paced fellas (one fixed) who I rode all the way to Dunwich with. Really surprised we got passed by not a single other rider for the whole second leg, was wondering if we'd gone a different route to everyone else as we were following the 2007 one posted here. Otherwise it could've been just not having to stop all the time to work out where the hell we were going.

Was fantastic to roll down to the beach at 04:30 with the Sun still to put in an appearance, and great to see it rise. Can't have been many more than 20 people there at that time, although I got in the cafe to discover Oliver was one of them.

6:56 for the 113 miles, which I'm pretty pleased with. Having got that out of me system I'll do the social ride next year, promise.
