  • Here in grobag towers, its all go. Scott is running around trying to fit everything in to his new frame bags, object is stuffing his ninja as am I with SIS go jells and sandwiches and Bendix is sitting in teh corner drinking a whiskey.

    See you all there soon.

  • good luck you lot.
    I'm massively, massively jealous.

  • hey plumstress ! why not? work?

  • sam is on route - fuckin' A!

  • does anyone have any tubes for 28 tyres? i just realised all of mine are 23/25s for my fixed bike. and the shops closed 5 minutes before the realisation.

can i buy a couple from someone?

  • Crispin

half you holiday nursing a sore crotch? I thought you'd be doing that anyway whether or not you were on the DD so errr HTFU. Anyway enjoy the holiday we'll miss your cherries tonight!

Yeah it's also getting back tomorrow for the flight. I'll be a nervous wreck the whole time thinking about it. Plus new tire + supplies + coach back = £40 I could do without spending since I'm currently dole scum.

I'm thinking of proposing a smaller forum jaunt to Dunwich before the Summer's out though.

  • ^^They should be okay - butyl rubber is stretchy stuff, init.

  • hey plumstress ! why not? work?

been racing in monaco all day. heehee

my sister is over from australia and has an itinerary of stuff for me to do tomorrow

  • ^^ fanks

  • On the beach in Dunwich. Fantastic ride. Weather was perfect apart from being grey now. Can't believe people are riding back - good luck to them.

  • fuck that. i thought it said 'dulwich dynamo'

safely wrapped up in bed after turning around with the break away group from the feed station, led by texas and which included polkinghorn, bmmf, claus, and me. i gotta say the dunwich dynamo is a great ride but the thought of being marooned 125 miles from my bed on a stony beach 2 miles from a nuclear power station just doesn't do it anymore.
The ride back was tiring as to be expected but we kept the average speed going up and then hovered it at 16.5 for the whole 126 miles in 7hrs 38 minutes. awesome riding from some awesome guys.
ride out to food station was most enjoyable if a little crowded with people not sure what they were doing ( note to bloke who stopped in the middle of the road on the bend....don't do it asshole) great to see so many faces especially maxl but a shame there was no real catch up time.
hope you are enjoying your sausage in eggs suckers...i'm off to bed

  • lovely time here. first leg for me was a bit of a dawdle but caned the second half with a bunch of guys geared up (i was fixed). made it to see the sun rise (something that's eluded me in the past due to the weather or lack of pace). Weather on the ride to Dunwich was a welcome change from 2007 when i last road it. i seemed to be wet from the inside out rather than outside in. Made it in 7:12.

The ride to Ipswich was a bit of a struggle thanks to having caned the second half of the ride and the weather turning on us

    shower and duvet beckons...

  • totally jealous. wasn't feeling in the mood for this at all this week. ah well, next year.

  • Lost everyone almost immediately leaving Hackney cos of the traffic and number of bikes. Thinking people were in front of us I hauled arse trying to catch up, but soon realised I was probably ahead of them. Considered doing the decent thing and stopping to wait, but I was kinda happy motoring along so thought I'd keep the pace up for a while. Gormley came past looking like he meant business, so we hooked up and did the majority of the first half together, I only realised he'd dropped off when I noticed there were no longer any lights behind us.

Hit the road by meself again after a 30 min pit stop. Very few people around by then but I soon found another couple of equally paced fellas (one fixed) who I rode all the way to Dunwich with. Really surprised we got passed by not a single other rider for the whole second leg, was wondering if we'd gone a different route to everyone else as we were following the 2007 one posted here. Otherwise it could've been just not having to stop all the time to work out where the hell we were going.

Was fantastic to roll down to the beach at 04:30 with the Sun still to put in an appearance, and great to see it rise. Can't have been many more than 20 people there at that time, although I got in the cafe to discover Oliver was one of them.

6:56 for the 113 miles, which I'm pretty pleased with. Having got that out of me system I'll do the social ride next year, promise.

  • home sweet home ..
    what a night, great ride.
anyone got some legs i can borrow?

  • Just got home.

I'm totally exhausted, and I just want to curl up and sleep. Can't believe I even considered riding back, getting to Ilford was hard enough.

For me the worst thing was the sleep deprivation and my saddle wasn't as comfy as I'd like it to be. I might invest in a Fizik Arione.

Supplies-wise I did fine, maybe could have done with some arm warmers as it was a bit chilly after the feed stop.

I had way too much food and carried home a peanut butter sandwich, a malt loaf, an energy bar and gel and some flapjack. Did eat a sausage roll, an energy bar, a banana, some flapjack and some soreen as well as a plate of pasta at the food stop.

Anyone who did ride home, you're a legend. I think clintsmoker had the right idea with turning back after the food stop, for a nice kip in a nice warm bed.

That said, seeing the sunrise was totally amazing and kept me going to the beach, which was drab.

The ride back was great - roads completely to ourselves, apart from the odd bunch of stragglers still heading to Dunwich. Very surreal to be riding some of the Essex clubrun country lanes, but between 3 & 6am. Thanks to the TNRC regulars for a new experience :)

How can people still be riding northeastwards through Finchingfield at about 4am?!?

  • Bah.

Been stoked about this ride for months, to the point of ignoring knackered knee. It let itself be known 35 miles in and I realised I had a long way to go. About turn, one fucking lonely ride back to the City (Epping Forest is no fun on when it's just you and the boy racer massive). Much navigational woes followed, sleeping in St Pancras and back in Bedford for 7.

Great vibe, nice to meet some of you guys. Cyclefit and physio to follow.....

  • Can't believe I even considered riding back, getting to Ilford was hard enough.

Ilford? WTF did you want to end your ride there for? The scenery?

yeah cheers for the ride back all TNRCengers. Well cycled. Intensely needed a powernap PBP style at about 6am but somehow kept the pedals turning and eyes open!

Ipswich! I told you I was a wreck.

  • Great ride. Many thanks to my ride partners, mainly BigFatAl, Arrogah, Tim, Braker, and Jonny, but also the randoms such as Gav, Clintsmoker, Jung, and Jung's mate who wasn't even his mate. Apologies if I missed anyone off, I am very effing tired!

Shame about the heavens opening at 7:30am, but wasn't too bad for me as I'd just finished brekkie and was about to head off again.

Home in Kent at 1:30pm when I assume a few people were still on the beach!

  • Oh, those pictures of the sunrise are BEAUTIFUL! I am definitely doing it fast next year.

And no one told me it would rain!

  • Did the ride almost completely alone, many thanks to the fella on the Van Nicholas I met after Bildeston for your GPS navigation. Rode home and arrived about 10.30 and slept till now:)
Sorry to rant now, don't like to but.....
Note to anyone riding on the wrong side of the road, the roads are in two directions in Suffolk. Keep your eyes open for people riding back and please move out of the way.
Note to others dropping route cards, gel wrappers and the inner tube I saw on the side of the road, you give all cyclists a bad name and make a mess of the places where I ride regularly and others live permanently.
Hopefully nobody on here are the culprits.
Rant over, cannot wait till next year now.
