  • @bmmf - base layers are for wimps and communists

  • I'm going to put my base layer in the Camelbak, and take my pathetic clothing deliberations off-line.

  • I don't suppose you have a link?
I've only found the 06 route but it appears to have changed a little.

Sorry I was being lazy. This is the one that I put on the Garmin.

  • @bmmf - camelbaks are for wimps and communists too. what do you think those pocket things are for on the back of your thick retro woolen jersey? just meta-amphetamines?

  • They're for food. I haven't had a chance to use the blue bladder this year, so fuck off. You won't be getting your lips around my fluid tube when you're desperate for something to suck on.

  • all this waiting is killing me.
i just want to go now.

  • Just fucking go then. See you in Dunwich.

  • @Veevee, thanks.

  • yeah... fuck this..... i'm leaving now.
    see you guys there.

  • waiting is killing me too. i should sleep but this thread keep me awake.

  • Sorry I was being lazy. This is the one that I put on the Garmin.

hey, VeeVee and Plagiarist. i am pretty sure they're using the 2007 route instead of the 2008 one as the switch last year was prompted by the village hall being renovated.

this is the 2007 route. that's what i'll be using.

  • I'll put 2007 on as well but this is confusing. On the website they put a link to the 2008 route.

  • I like 2007, it is shorter :)

  • I like 2007, it is shorter :)

ha! and the food stop is a bit earlier as well. the email i got from Barry Mason said that they were using the 2007 route, but now that the 2008 route is up, i'm also now paranoid.

  • Preparation checklist:

Don't drink too much the night before - fail
Get a new cog for more spinning less grinding - fail
Stock up on performance gels and energy bars - fail (unless you count Sainsburys "all butter shortbread rounds")
Sort our some storage on the bike so I don't have to carry the full load in a rucksack - fail
Have a long lie in - WIN!

I've never ever been more ready for anything, ever, in my life before, ever!

May try and join up with the group meeting at Highbury Corner as it's more or less on my way, depends on what time the friend I'm riding with wants to depart so if I'm not there don't wait. (I'll be on a black SE Lager)

  • I think there's a very slim possibility of isolated showers in the morning, as in some time between 9-11am, not 1-5am!!

I'm 50/50 about tonight now, been low on energy/enthusiasm/sleep all week. The boy is being a bit of a handful today as well.

Both people I had planned to ride with have blown (one ill, other bad back), so really not sure.

    Yes, HTFU etc to infinity.

    put it this way;

you'll never feel so much better when you done the DD after all this shit happening, you'd feel even more satisfy doing it.

  • @bmmf - mmmmmmmmmmm nothing beats tepid, sweat warmed lucozade straight from scarlet's teat. i'll stick to bottles of jungle juice attached to the bike using bottle cages (i've seen professional riders use these in an effort to ....win races)

  • I'm off to buy some knee warmers innit. And gloves, definitely gloves.

dudes !!! - it's july - summer - everybody calm down with the panic clothing. :)

ok: just compared the two routes. if we go into LAVENHAM, then it's the 2008 route, if we don't then it's 2007. the route sheet at london fields should clarify all.

  • @clintsmoker - I've got some of those pro-style water bottle trap things on my bike too.

Lucozade? WTF is this? The 1980s? People just use water nowadays - haven't you done ecstasy, FFS?

  • In all seriousness, the only piece of cycling-specific gear I have is some padded pants. Would it be wise to get a decent base layer?

  • You do need a decent base layer to wear inside your padded pants, yes.

  • Ah fuck it. I'm off to a BBQ to drink wine and eat steak, no point just sitting around, this isn't a bleeding guiness ad afterall.

Might see some of you at highbury cnr for 7, otherwise see you on the road.

Why didn't I see ridicule coming...
