I'm sssoooooo excited about this now. About to head to the shops to get some supplies.*
*12 cans of cider.
Fixed.
hehehe... thats how i got through the first one i did too. Its trickery - yes. But for the greater good. *I might add Chris did the ride in excellent form last year.
@ chris - I can't ride right now unfortunately. ;(
Flattery will get you everwhere! Sorry to hear about that Jacqui but you will be missed. I'm not sure after riding with us last year if moose ever figured out whether Canadians or Americans were the bitchiest for the last 10 miles....
I am currently eating the biggest pasta salad you have ever seen....

That feature in the sitting on sofa doing fuck all portion of the day.I should point out that Polo relates to watching not playing. And I doubt that I'll actually make it there.

To all of you first timers , good luck.
Your 1st DD will be magical, especialy the part when you finally leave London and street light @ N Weald and head into the Essex Lanes.
I be with you, but I m in Hitchin that evening.

be prepared for evil farts on sunday/monday. eating lots of energy bars tend to have that effect.
luckily the resulting miasma is heavier than air so as long as you are standing up the smell will sink quite quickly.I have deleted all your food recommendations from my list.

Apparently you burn more calories sitting and doing absolutely nothing than you do watching tv. I think in order to save that energy you shouldn't watch the TdF.

How about lying in bed watching the TdF, will that use even fewer calories? -

I hope so as I'll be doing the same (not in the same bed though)

I have met some of the people I enjoy riding bikes with most over the past 4 dun runs by simply nattering away with strangers who are at my pace ... at 3,4,5, in the morning you'll be glad for the company that keeps you awake. (also reinforces my belief that folk that do this are totally brilliant and fun)
No matter what the weather out there it IS magical. Have a great time!! -

*I've never been so afraid off a ride in my life.
I went to Evans and didn't listen to any of your colleague's recommendations re saddle packs.
Anyway he said that he would never use a saddle pack (implying that they're way too uncool)...

Getting a bit aprehensive about this now...
Brighton last week was great, but not sure how i'll fare at twice that distance. The concerns are mainfesting themselves in epic gluttony though :)

the terrain is totally different Monsieur Braker, you'll do fine and getting the Brighton ride in will no doubt be a help.

Gutted I can't join in, but I don't want to risk being a sore wreck on my main summer holiday. Up for doing it with a small group before the end of summer though.

Two water bottles, a pair of bags strapped to the frame.
The freestyler is turning into a plug tourer.. -

It will be easier by far.
1) less climbing over double that distance.
2) less obstruction to setting a good pace once into the Epping Forest
3) tailwind all the way
4) the benefits of night riding
5) the spur of there being no back up (this is only worrying until the point of no return (either Sudbury or 11pm, whichever comes first) after that until you get to 8am or the beach, stopping means no more food and sleeping outdoors. -

Just a word of warning, I spoke to a mate who does a lot of this long distance stuff.
Be careful not to have to many of the energy gels if you haven't trained with them, apparently they
can play havoc with your guts if you overdo it!
Wouldn't be pleasant having a gastric episode at 3am in the middle of nowhere!Yeah, defo if you're not used to them they can be evil and I would avoid them.
Also, they're only really meant for intense exercise when eating normal food isn't possible or light-weight bonk saver/hunger-flat killer. There should be no need for them on DD. Solid foods are better for you and make you feel 'better', ie. your morale is up when you have a full tummy. -

Thanks for the tips guys, I was only planning on using one towards the end when/if I lose the will to live.
-
• #797
Can't wait now my bike's kitted out like a tourer, even though the two guys I was planning on doing it with have dropped out.
Focus on the positive: I'm bringing flapjacks. Mmmm flapjacks.
