  • Just had a pleasant experience with this bike shop.

They needed to help out my chainline, they tried multiple bottom brackets, ("refused" to give me my bike without the right one) They then ordered a new one that didn't come, so got a courier to pick one up from condor cycles.

Even with the smallest bracket (103) the chainline wasn't quite right, so they fitted the ring under the cranks with spacers, and filed down bolts so that it could fit.

All this for £20, which I find very reasonable. (I saw my bike was being worked on for a while)

As I mentioned, they suggested things like a proper non-mtb chainring, but I think thats a testament to them wanting things leaving the shop right not botched.

It looks like some crazy dutch porno bikeshop upstairs, but downstairs is a really cool workshop.

    Cheers.

  • Is that you Will?

  • nope, Emil.

  • Is this a bit of self promotion?? You work in there?

    BURN HIS EYES!

  • lol, just returning the favour for a good job. I actually work next dor.

  • Just to make it clear; I am not the OP.
Thanks Emilio; it's Daniel you have to thank. He showed me the bike when you brought it in and the chainline was shocking. I didn't realise he'd gone to such lengths to sort it out especially as it is a very busy workshop. Cheers.
Oh and if I was you I would take the advice on a new chainring.

  • Used to be my LBS, and always did a damn fine job I must say.

    chilling words there.

  • I've only ever been in the shop twice, and I have to admit I liked the service, layout, etc. Sure I don't need an Amsterdam bike, but I did buy a very lovely book from there, "the golden age of hand-built bicycles". And did take a look downstairs, the open workshop did look nice.

I can't say anything bad against the shop or service, or even the product as I didn't ride anything. The only thing that tainted velorution for me was that blog post last year... you all know the one.

How does that Hefner song go? "I thought you were perfect but that racist joke just made it all bittersweet".

I still like the shop, but find it hard to get past that blog post last year. But the shop, the stock, the workshop, the service... all good as far as I could see.

  • I agree - I have always had excellent service from Velorution, and always recommended them (even though I always felt the owner's customer PR attitude varied often..) I even brought my Brommie at full price from them, even though my employer only did 'ride to work' with Evans (who I tried to avoid due to bad service in the past).

HOWEVER...... having ONLY recently just discovered the owners racist blog from last year, his naive 'clarification' instead of a apology following the fall-out, there is a bittersweet taste in my mouth now, and will no longer use Velorution. I am a 2nd generation immigrant, not white, born in Essex, drive a Saxo VTR with black tinted windows, love London, love cycling and just feel that Andrea's bigot views have no place in this fantastic City of ours.
