I havent got any advice, but being a newbie to roads myself, I think it's pretty good of you to teach her, if only I had someone to!

once you're inthe undepass bit (the bit in the middle), i think (think) that you can get out to all exit points of the roundabout.
if you come out onto the armoury way roundabout from putney (from under the railway bridge) you'll see the classic car shop. stay in the right hand lane of this. take the first exit (right) after the first traffic lights. then immediately first left. turn right at the pub. this will bring you around the town hall. turn left up the hill stay on the right hand side and you're at the trinity road roundabout. there should be a bike path on your right hand side by the white block of flats.
make sense?

Damo - cheers for that
On this map
We have currently been going frogmore, to armoury way, round to fairfield street and up that hill
What im wondering is can go from putney under that little railway bridge, and take an immediate left on point pleasant to follow those back roads round to ultimately come out on Smugglers way, and by the roundabout, and so take the underpass to trinity road
Just not sure where the underpass would leave us, and would this be a worse position than crossing the 4 lanes early. If you see what i mean?!

I think I might have a solution for you, as this was part of the ladies ride yesterday, have a look at the 'Attack of the 50 Fixed Women' thread, and the mapmyride route I posted - the one of interested is the 'route from park to pub' it comes from putney, round the back streets, onto smugglers way then onto the roundabout but there is a bike path there, you can cross at the lights on both then onwards - it doesn't quite hit trinity but it gets you in the right area.
PM me if you want some more info, I've ridden that route quite a lot, and live near Tooting. -

i go through that underpass every day and it has 4 exits so you get out at any side you
want without crossing the traffic.this the one?

What about crossing at the lights where you come onto Armoury Way, turning left up Ram Street, go up Garrat Lane then left up AllFarthing Lane which brings you out at Spencer park?

Thank you so so much!

that's along my route to work (west hill, armoury way and over toward battersea) I used to go under the roundabout but it's actually quite safe to go round it with the cars :)

PS people do know that the underpass there is where the scene from Clockwork Orange was filmed... right?

Glad its useful, to get to Clapham north all you have to do is extend it down Clapham Park road then left down Bedford Road and bob's your uncle.
Its a really nice route, there is a little hill up wakehurst road, but its nothing too taxing, and minimal traffic - If I can lead 30+ ladies on it I'm sure you'll be fine with 1 :-DOh and come to South drinks (which is where that route ends) and introduce yourselves - seems rude not to as its on the way home!

Where are you going to/from for the whole journey; exact places make it much easier (although move it a street or two away from the real start/destination if you don't want to give away the exact locations...)
It's much easier to provide a route suggestion if we know everything, there might be a way to avoid the whole lot if you give us more info.
What im wondering is can go from putney under that little railway bridge, and take an immediate left on point pleasant to follow those back roads round to ultimately come out on Smugglers way, and by the roundabout, and so take the underpass to trinity road
I used to work right next to where you're talking about (in the big red brick buildings, now vacant, opposite the Queen Adelaide and HSS).
Yes, you can turn left onto Point Pleasant. You go'll go back under the Railway Bridge and take the first right past onto Osiers Road (if you go straight on there's an ace pub up on the right called The Cat's Back, say hello to Emile and Monica). Then, after the road bends round to the left turn right into the Enterprise Way industrial estate. Go straight on to the end of this and jink right then left and there's a cycle path over a little bridge over Bell Creek. You carry straight on and end up onto Smugglers Way and past the dump and the recycling centre on your left. Further on past B&Q on the right and the posh flats on the left, turn left just before MacD's (Marl Road) and then right just after MacD's (bus depot on left) and there's a way down into the underpass between MacD's and the roundabout itself.
If it were me going to Spencer Park I'd be tempted to stay on Putney Bridge Road, left onto Frogmore (it looks one way near the end but bikes are allowed to get through to Armoury Way), onto the cycle path alongside Armoury Way and either join the road at the end of Ram Street (if full of cars) or use the lights to cross onto Old York Road, turn right at the Alma (there's a small cycle lane that allows bikes to get from Old York Road onto Podmore Road right by the Alma). Cross Trinity Road at the traffic lights there and use the cycle paths to get onto Bartholomew Road (the back end of the East Hill Estate). Up the hill to East Hill, cross the 4 lanes when traffic is calm or use the zebra crossings at the junction with Marcilly Road and up onto Wandsworth Common Northside.
Again, it depends on the actual start/finish. There may be a way to completely avoid it (such as heading South early), going through King Georges Park onto Mapleton Road, into Borrodaile Road using the cycle path next to GJ's on Garrett Lane and onto All Farthing Lane that way. There's an underpass near the end there (about in line with Quarry Road if it ran all the way to Trinity Road) that'll get you under Trinity Road without having to mess with 4 lanes of angry motons.

Thanks for all the tips. Ive been dropping her off and picking her up from point pleasant, and using the route suggested by clefty and greenbank to get to the underpass through the back roads. She is very happy with that option, cuts out all issues of the one way system and is very very quiet. She starts in sheperds bush and has now found a route that goes along the river from hammersmith to that rail bridge in putney now too so has managed to cut out most of the roads!!
Its a little longer and slower but if she's happier I think thats the most important bit. Certainly better views than I get trying to go across vauxhall bridge!
Cheers for all the advice, has been very very helpful
Cycling my girlfriend into work while she gets more confident on londons road, and part of the route is from putney to wandsworth and on up through to spencer park area (next to Trinity road)
We have done it twice so far, and come out halfway on the one way system on Armoury way, but as we need to eventually go round to the right on the system, it means crossing 4 lanes of traffic - now you try and convince someone who is new to cycling in london that this is safe!!
So ive been looking at taking the back roads through to the wandsworth roundabout, and seeing what the trinity road underpass does for us, but finding absolutely zero information on the web other than it being the scene of the opening part of Clockwork Orange... Just trying to find out in advance, that if you were travelling through the underpass to trinity road, where does it actually bring you out to? And therefore where does it drop it you. I guess im just trying to find out if this will be a better alternative than fighting 4 lanes of traffic
Sorry for the rambling post, but any help really appreciated!
