  • No. Pink wheels with green bar tape can be anti-porn, but that Brooklyn is way to functional (and strangely beautiful) to appear in this thread.

  • indeed!

  • whatever!

  • you need a slap for that super

  • I'm finding this all highly amusing as i couldn't care less whether anyone likes this bike like i do.
But...i love a good debate, so i'd love to hear from those of you who dislike the bike what you consider to be wrong with it. If it's purely appearance then fine, that's personal choice.
There isn't a part on this bike that hasn't been chosen or made for a very good reason...and they've all been made to work perfectly together too.
    So bring it on :)

  • I can think of one

    the rider!
    ah hah hah hah hah!

I don't really dislike the bike, I just thought it would be fun to post it here. Although the colour is horrible, if you like it then who cares...

I might question why you didn't just build a normal audax bike with panniers though, but I suspect you were more interested in building it, than the actual practicality of it.

oh, and the bottles and tri bars are stupid. IMO.

I didn't build a normal audax bike because THIS is my bike...i don't have cash to build a specific audax bike...and have no need to as this works perfectly for what i need.
I didn't want to use racks and panniers either...the centrally mounted frame bag will have the heavier items in which keeps the weight more balanced than front or rear panniers.
The bottles are great for me...less weight than a front pannier...perfectly positioned to just reach down and pull them out...only a few inches forward of where a downtube mounted shifter sits.
Tri bars also make perfect sense for distance riding and i'm sure you don't need me to explain why?

    Owt else? :)

oh, and Brown is the new black dahling

  • I like your cadbury bike Scott!

  • for fucks sake i was only jesting. For the record i don't dislike your bike... in fact i think it's fucking magic for all different reasons, including its looks. however, by the unwritten rules of this thread it's a prime candidate... it's a frankenbeast and proud of it. jeez.

Cunt, it looks fuckin wank! You want some do you, who the fuck do you think you are building shitty coloured shite like that!

Can I put some tags on this thread now?

  • ....it looks lish btw ;-)

    Fair enough.

I didn't want to use racks and panniers either...the centrally mounted frame bag will have the heavier items in which keeps the weight more balanced than front or rear panniers.
They seem to work well for the millions of people that use them though. Reinventing the wheel perhaps?

The bottles are great for me...less weight than a front pannier...perfectly positioned to just reach down and pull them out...only a few inches forward of where a downtube mounted shifter sits.
Seems a strange work around, you could of put bottles behind the seat without drilling into your forks.

Tri bars also make perfect sense for distance riding and i'm sure you don't need me to explain why?
I know the benefit of tri bars darling, 100% of my riding is done on a TT bike... I also know how uncomfortable they can be at high RPMs and presumably you will be using a smallish gear, so when you're going 20 mph+ (anything less is a bit pointless on tri bars) you'll be bouncing up and down a lot. Then again you've got your bars quite high so you might not have any problems (have you done much testing?)... so that's probably not a concern.

    Owt else? :)
    It's brown with gold bits.

  • for fucks sake i was only jesting. . jeez.

What you getting all stroppy about? is it cos it's sunny outside so you can't go out? :)

  • [insert witty retort]

    meh.

  • Fair enough.

Just because something works well for others it doesn't mean it's the only way to do things. Millions of people were happy using water bottles....does it mean camelbacks weren't worth inventing?

It's kind of difficult to mount bottles behind the saddle when it's gonna have a saddle bag mounted there. The forks have had proper bottle mounts brazed on, so they're no weaker than a downtube with bottle mounts.

You've answered your own questions on tri bars...they're not just for going fast in races...why do you think practically every bike in the RAAM uses them? They offer a position to rest on out of the wind....and when set up higher as on my bike they're far less uncomfortable.
As for Brown and gold...i love the two colours together...plain and simple.

    Owt else? :)

  • I hate that silly chain from the saddle to the frame.. is that for when the seatpost breaks or whats the point? Just glue a ball in the hex-bolt.. Looks cleaner and works the same.
Other than that it's a nice bike.

  • The forks have had proper bottle mounts brazed on, so they're no weaker than a downtube with bottle mounts.
I wasn't suggesting it would weaken the forks, but it's a lot of effort to go to, to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Do many RAAM riders ride fixed?

They offer a position to rest on out of the wind....and when set up higher as on my bike they're far less uncomfortable.
have you tested them over long distance yet then?

    Saddle bag...'check'
    Frame bag...'check'
Not wanting to carry anything on my back...'check'

Can you think of a better solution than mounting them on the fork legs?

How many ride fixed is irrelevant. I'm not using the tri bars for flat out speed...it's to help over the whole distance to help rest my upper body and back....which they do if set high enough.

Yes...i used to run tri bars years ago...believe it or not i'm not new to cycling...i didn't just join the 'fixie' craze. :)

  • Just glue a ball in the hex-bolt.. Looks cleaner and works the same.

err...wouldn't you then never be able to adjust your saddle height or remove/replace the seatpost?

  • Can you think of a better solution than mounting them on the fork legs?
An audax bike with panniers and normal bottle cages? :D :D

No, I mean have you tested this bike out over long distances?

  • Scalpel

  • superglue remover

  • anyone got any picture's of shit lookin' bikes?

  • An audax bike with panniers and normal bottle cages? :D :D

No, I mean have you tested this bike out over long distances?

Wanna buy me a new bike then?

Of course i've tested it....i rode it to brick lane to hang out outside shop 14....and tomorrow i'm gonna take it all the way down clerkenwell road.
