I just read that in the vacuum of space, where traditional lubricants are rendered useless, gold film is used between moving mechanical parts of satelites and rockets and stuff. Apparently for a malleable material, it has a very high shear strength. I assume shear strength means it doesn't get ripped to shreds. Fucking fascinating.
