48/16 is 81" on 700c. you will be just fine, I did it on 81" last year and had a really good time. However I am on 72" this year to get used to a shorter gear to prepare for a fixed Lands end/Jon O'Groats next year(I hope! as will cost time and money). I regularly do a ride In Essex which takes in three of the longest and steepest hills I can find and there is nothing even remotely as painful on the DD.
I also am excited to the point of exhaustion....
