There and other way back:

2. Sam (fixed) - riding back to Ipswich to catch the train
3. C2 (fixed) - to Ipswich maybe :D
4. actualmatthew (fixed) - ride to Ipswich for the train back to Cambridge.
5. brett (fixed) - keep riding into sea to live in original ancient settlement.
6. EcoLoco (fixed) prob ride to Ipswich, may ride back
7. huge16 (ss) beach BBQ and beer then lift back. Hoping to put some beer n BBQ in the car for all you lot if possible!
8. The Seldom Killer - Fixed (46x18 or maybe 46x16 with an 18ss on the flip in case of fail). Getting a lift home with gf who is bringing the van and has assured me that she will bring some beer and stick it on ice.
9. Sasmon - Fixed or geared - haven't decided yet (staying with some friends in the country)
10. jonny. not sure if fixed or geared. riding back part of possibly all the way. like everything in life it will depend on the wind.

I'm hoping to do it (getting steroid injections in my shoulder on Friday though...) - I've got a ticket back from Darsham to get home, but it changes at Ipswich, where I can only presume there will be a huge crowd of people waiting to get on the train...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you might not get onto the train at Darsham, even with a ticket. There are tales every year of people being turned away once there are a certain number of bikes on the train - even if they have reservations - and as I was leaving the beach last year I passed a whole group of people on their way back from the station, saying they hadn't been allowed on the train. I hope you'll be one of the lucky ones!

wondering if i should go fixed on saturday??

have done several 40/50/70 mile rides recently with no problem, but just wondering what it feels like at 3am with no free wheel option? I have a 16 and 15 tooth flip flop hub, but dont want to kill myself by going fixed.

any advice, i hear its pretty flat which is a bonus.

It's mostly flat. I did it running 78" gear last year. It proved a bit too high for the short sharp climb in Finchingfield (which I walked), but it got me to the food stop before it got busy, and the beach by 5.30.

I'll be doing it on a 75". It was so nice last weekend to power along for large chunks, rather than spin like a massive failmonster on my usual 68".

First year I used around 75". Second year went back to normal commuting gear around 70" and much preferred it. It could have something to do with the horrible weather on the first year and not actually being able to use the bigger gear due to poor vis.

My last two 55 mile runs have been on 68" as I'm getting a bad knee after a while, especially after I've had to grind up a few short, sharp hills on 72". I'll have 66" and may start on it , hopefully I'll get there by the time the coach leaves!

this looks amazing. completely out of my league, mad props to you all.

just a wee heads up re: london fields. i work at pub on the park and bikes get nicked from outside there all the time. i guess if there are alot of you around the thieves may be more cautious, but i also imagine there will be some stirling bikes on display, upping the stakes.

anyhoo, i'll be working saturday eve, so if anyone doesn't fancy carrying heavy locks with them i would be happy to keep them behind the bar, and will be working sunday night too if you want to pick them up. (ask for cara, and steer clear of the manager, [bald, unhinged] he will most likely whinge about it)
