  • This is quite an authentic thread to post in. Made more authentic if you live in East London and get to commute (sorry - very occasionally ride) down Londons famous Londons Clerkenwell road. Which IMHO is most authentic on the rise up towards Theobalds Road, Grays Inn Road.

Yeah ! It's a great bit of solid riding, glad to see this much underestimated patch of authentic fixie bike riding road is getting some recognition.

Although on the downside it can get a little bit racist in late Autumn.

  • the hipster spice route.. there is a map somewhere on the forum..

  • if you want to pass off as a newbie Dean, you need to do the following;

    4 - use the word 'fixie-skidder' instead.

i invented that phrase. i can't say i'm happy about it being appropriated by 'newbies' but if it helps the feel accepted then i suppose it's a good thing.
i'm working on something newer and more incisive at the moment around the concept of the 'fixie-nodder'
basically the illusion of speed through thrashing around on a very low geared upright bike with risers that has the same saddle and bar position as a nodder/hybrid/brompton but is essentially a fixie.
'NowhereFastFixie-Nodder' is a bit of a mouthful though so maybe just 'fixie-nodder'?

  • Yeah, I know that road very well, it's around 3 or 4 miles from Platini's mum's house.

    worth the trip?

    Don't forget:

    Nu-folders
    Slicksies
    Lowbrids
    Post-langsters
    Polypacks

  • Whut do you guise reckon? Have I missed any? I see these as the hot pockets of fixie culture and the best places to hang, dont get to Brick Lane as much as I used to as I feel like its a bit 'cool' now.

    1. Broadway Market
    2. Brick Lane basketball courts
    3. Columbia Road
    4. London fields on the grass (good for practising tricKz)
    5. Bethnal Green Road near the Tesco.

    Don't you ride a Brompton?

    1. Top of the car park on Commercial Road. Perfect surface for doing wheelies. Especially on a Brompton. ;-)
  • worth the trip?

only if you get there before Tynan. after that she's been ruined. like throwing a sausage down oxford street.

    XXXtreme fixie-nodder?

  • fixodder?

  • Wall-to-wall anus

  • anal wallrider?

  • roadie-fodder?

  • Get yourself to the traffic lights outside the Foundry.

  • Yeah, I know that road very well, it's around 3 or 4 miles from Platini's mum's house.

    Classic, and bloody funny.

  • How does one measure authenticity?

  • There's a chart in the back of the bible..

  • How does one measure authenticity?

im not 100% sure tbh. Its made up of lots of intangibles, there are however a few pointers.

I think it has to have a 'human scale' ie. somewhere you can sit down that feels kind of enclosed and not too much traffic, somewhere to lock your bike, a pub / coffee shop /bike shop close by. Green lawn to practise wheelies on.

Lots of foot traffic and other cyclists passing through. Preferably in a slightly impoverished area, you want rudeboys walking past looking at your bikes. You need to be able to 'scene it up'

Also useful is word of mouth so that the area is known but not too known, you dont want to read about it in the guardian pon weekend really.

  • Just fucking ride your bike.

  • cant just ride anywhere mate, how will i identify.

  • There is around 100 metres (possibly 110 ?) of road leading down from Clerkenwell Road going East, just before it crosses Farringdon Road which is pretty authentic, there is a section near the start (around 15 meters in) which is a little less authentic, although it can't be any longer than 6 metres - so if you are going at pretty decent speed you don't really notice it.

Also there are some small patches of Oxford street that are pretty authentic to ride although they tend to be sporadic and short (2 or 3 meters) and are surrounded by large areas of unauthenticity.

Will need to check this out and add it to google maps. How many of you guise would be interested in having access to this map on your iphones? would also have locations of other riders.

  • I live in Wiltshire and I have to say the roads around here are averaging 99.9% authenticity. In fact if you exclude the small village of Ansty it's pretty much all fucking original. Seriously, this shit doesn't get any more real than Wiltshire. No hipsters around here freaking and faking it and I'll go upside the head on the first one that tries to step out at Pewsey Station, you have been warned.

What about Haggerston park?I was there on friday along with a bunch of other guise and it seemed pretty cool. Some of us were trying to SKID THROUGH FIRE!!!!
One poor bugger had his back wheel go up in flames and couldn't put it out.Hahahahahahhahahaha!Cool fixie culture, man.
