Stripping

  • I'm building an all gold and silver single speed mtb and was wondering if anyone has anyone stripped paint off of hope levers (on purpose) before? I want gold levers with silver master cylinder and calipers. Any suggestions would be cool. Cheers.

  • I've not done it but (given the tolerances and some of the horror stories involving caustic soda), I'd get a buffing attachment for a drill and buff it off.

How are you planning to make the levers gold? I thought Hopes can with silver lever blades/black clamps as standard?

  • I was expecting a much better thread when i read 'stripping'.

  • Tom, they do come black and silver but i was gonna strip them back to all sliver then buy some after market levers and master cylinder covers in gold. Might be a bit ambitious though.

  • Like Porter7474 said......perhaps next time!

  • Personally, I don't think the trouble is justified by the result, especially if you're going to ride it offroad anyway. But that's subjective; to me the aesthetics wouldn't be that huge a priority.
