Frame dent removal- Trevor Jarvis

  • Thought I'd report back after the conversation on the spotted thread. Went to see him to get my dent removed, absolutely brilliant, unsnobbish friendly guy, watched him work and saw the frames he had in his little workshop, 'rolled' the dent out, filled in what was left, sanded and smoothed it, checked the tracking etc, chatted a bit and charged me £15. Saw his bike which was beautiful, unfortunately he said he can't really ride anymore because he has cancer which is pretty sad but he seemed sprightly and well and was organising his orders for next year. Totally reccomended for any sort of work on a frame, was tricky to find a time as he is pretty busy. Link here

  • WTF

  • yurp, pretty odd looking, less odd in the flesh but he does make standard shapes too.

  • Its one of the iconic frames of british made stuff. called a flying gate, look it up.

  • look at those lugsss!!..a labour of lug for sure..

  • That's a flying gate isn't it? Nice lugs. (DUH: Decal read fail)

  • Yeah something tells me it's called a 'flying gate'

  • Glad you went down and met him in person, hes a nice guy ain't he - shame to hear he has Cancer :-{ and he can't ride, bet thats a real bummer for him as he used to organise a yearly ride for Flying Gate owners.

Really nice guy and frame builder - highly recommended to anyone looking to repair steel.

  • i see it now

  • I've never seen a flying gate but I've seen burning gates. We were pissed and our bonfire was about to go out, so we went out to look for wood in the streets. I don't think I need to tell you the rest.

  • yurp, pretty odd looking, less odd in the flesh but he does make standard shapes too.

  • I'm fuming at the moment having found that a dent has appeared in one of the seat stays on my Condor Pista. I only keep it in the bike shed at work or in my sitting room at home so it must have been some £%!"$%&* at work who has givien it a really hard knock. Looks like it must have had a pretty hard hit to do the damage.
I took it to Condor and they said there's nothing they can do. Ride on till it dies, and avoid pot holes! They did however offer me a discount on a new frame and said they could dig out one of last years frames at an even cheaper price. Which i thought was generous seeing as they didn't have to offer that. Is there anything else i can do? Don't really want to fork out for a new frame. Will any London frame builders be able to do anything with it? I live near Kiwi Cycles in Hackney does anyone have any experience of them and can they do repairs like this?

Will post some photos when i get the chance.

  • depends on type of tubing ,how big and where the dent is

  • It can easily be fixed but it will cost you in work and the paint.

With a Condor Pista the real question would end up being; is it worth it?
