do you want a finished item, or a project?
52cm methinks

i thought 50-52 yeah. finished ideally. i have a few bits lying about so part-build not out of the question. definitely not major "project" (sorry skully). cheap and cheerful preferred.

funny you should say that, i was supposed to be looking for bikes for her on gumtree this morning and got fascinated with the "last night" board? have you seen that thing? it's like the craigslist missed connections thing but weirder.

No way 50/52 - more like 53/54.
I'm a long-legged* 5'6.5", and I have one 52 and one 53.5 – she would need the bigger one if she's 5.7 with long legs.
*Sorry, that sounds really vain. But you know what I mean.

- 1 on the sizing, I'm 5ft 8" with long legs and my two road bikes are 55.5cm and 56cm.

i know what you mean. we'll see. i've tried her on a 54 and she's too stretched out to reach the bars with the seat at the right height. unless it's a pretty compact geometry i think she'd be more comfortable on a 50-52 with the seat up a bit and a riser-ish stem arrangement. but we'll see.

I'm sorry, its best not to respond to those dodgy emails she keeps sending out. In real life, she doesn't look like the photograph.

I have a old womens road bike for sale, has been converted to single speed. A few bits need attending to, but the bulk of the work i have done.

hi,
[waffly preamble]after years of mild pestering i finally got my missus on her bike this spring. i tempted her with a stylish but megaton-heavy dutch style jobbie. she took to cycling in town really well but quickly realised that the dutch bike was less than ideal (all the well documented drawbacks of being slow, weighing too much to carry up stairs, having the agility of an oil tanker and taking up way too much space in our small flat)[/waffly preamble]
So i'm looking for the logical next step for her. she wants a "cute old racing bike". It would get regular light use. i'm thinking either a singlespeed or geared road bike. Probably not fixed, although obvs i can convert (deconvert?) the right bike should it be required. I think she's open minded as to lady's/men's/mixte frames.
She's 5'7". I don't know her instep but she's got long legs for her height.
anyone got anything that might fit that bill? Budget would be in the £150-200 region.
thanks in advance.
Al.
