  • If you're going for pre-built wheels, you also have the option of getting a normal mountain bike wheelset, either with a rear cassette hub and a singlespeed conversion kit, or with a threaded rear hub and a singlespeed freewheel.

With the former option you'd have a huge choice of wheels, anything from cheap shite that costs less than a night out on the piss, to expensive professional featherweight bling that costs more than you earn in a month. Due to the 135 spacing of cassette hubs you would have to open the rear end of the frame up a bit, which is only really an option if it's a steel frame. Otherwise you might be able to remove 15mm worth of spacers so it'd fit, but I doubt you can do that with a cassette hub...

With the latter option you just need to get the rear wheel re-dished slightly (you can easily do it yourself in about ten minutes) and replace the large drive-side spacer with a smaller one. Smaller choice of wheels, but if you're dealing with an aluminium frame then this is probably your only other option.

Alternatively, bring me some track hubs, rims, spokes, nipples, a bottle of Dragon Stout and £20 and I'll build the wheels for you.
