I got a day off work to go to his funeral when Papa Marine Ices died in the 90s*. I worked at Criterion Ices (in Sydenham, for all you south london icecream fans) at the time and regularly served Timothy Spall, who has strangely handsome children, given his own face.
Both families had come over to London in the '20s. They split London, north and south between them to reduce competition.
