  • dud you just posted a ruben video and asked a really struggling question. holy shit dumb thread.

  • Do you think he chooses to PUSH his bmx away for the fun of it?

    @scott - i actually loled at that.

  • a one pound donation to start threads would be such a great idea.

    double plus one.

i don't know how to multiquote but scotts second statement made me laugh.

Go get some gold stars next to your avatars

  • This is the only bad thing about the internet. It makes people ponder something, and instead of going out and seeing if it is actually possible, decide to ask the rest of the world rather than trying it themselves.

Until you go and do one yourself George, you are a pussy.

  • A big FAT NO!

Doing an awkward wallride on something really high, launching off a bank and landing on a different one at again another awkward angle - relies on speed and manouverability of the bike.

If you went that fast on a fixed bike (presumably with 700c wheels) your wheels and drivetrain would be spinning right up to the launch bank if you had the fastness & skill to stop pedalling.

This would not allow you to setup your body up (recoil?) for the launch, twisting and wallride. Also most likely is that your wheels would be still spinning, and so the increased intertia from the larger wheels would create a pwerful gyroscope making it difficult to instigate such a rapid turn of the body. This goes for both before and after the wallride, both points at which it would be difficult to be not pedalling at all due to the speed of each element.

Lastly we have the simple fact its really awkward to do even simple stuff like a bunny hop whilst pedalling, getting that much air and being able to land again would be an amazing feat.

You could do something like this on a freewheel 700c bike if you were blessed with the unreal skills of someone like ruben and really fucking pushing it. But to do it 700c fixed you would have to be inhuman.

  • Coppi = about £40
    Charco = about £25

Cough up chaps with your kind offer to keep the wheels of the servers turning.
At £1 per thread started, I'm in credit. puts on thinking cap for threads to start

  • @ fruitbat i've only started 17 threads since last year and only 5 since April (the point at which the gold stars are being counted from).

I'd happily pay a pound to start a thread. however i can't afford to donate to the forum, in fact it's looking likely that I'll be selling my bikes to make Augest's rent so fuck off with your goldstar fascism tim.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but telling others to donate isn't the desired effect of the goldstars.. Donate if you can, money isn't the only way to contribute to the forum.

Yeah, very droll. Nice one Scott.

Thats the biggest load of pseudo science crap I have ever heard in my life.....oh and bunnyhopping whilst pedalling is a piece of piss.

  • There is no way in the world this could be done on a fixed bike, absolutely no way. I'd pay good money to see someone try though. I can imagine them sprinting towards the bank looking like a hamster in a wheel being buggered before missing the back wall and landing in the security guards lap.

I know Forward is a few years old but even for BMX this is still nuts, look how high up he is and how far he travels across the wall FFS. Fixed freestyle certainly isn't short of confidence that's for sure; stick to practicing your rock walks, 360 tyretaps and pull up barspins. You never know in thirty years time you might have something that looks a little bit like BMX today.

  • Haha, Gem i'm not dissing bmx here, or trying to belittle just how amazing that gap/wallride is, I love Ruben and everything he's done, the man has some of the biggest balls in bmx, but like you said, look at how long it took for bmx to get to this point, mostly my post was taking the piss out of the gyroscopic crap that DFP talked about in his post!
Sure enough fixed freestyle isn't at this kinda point yet, but there is some gnarly shit and some good sized gaps/wallrides going down, someone got the first handrail on a fixed on video the other week, this sub-division of fixed riding has only been going for a couple of years now, things can only move forward from here.

  • That is from forward. Good section with some awsome riding. The edditing is a little bit didgy though. The last two minutes are just wallrides, wich although awsome get a little bit wearing.

That's not from Forward. This is:

  • Sorry, Grounded. The forward section is better in my opinion.

It's going to progress much, much, quicker than BMX I think because people are mainly trying BMX moves (from what I've seen) hence there's no need for thinking or innovation. Just pick a trick and see if it can be done. I'm only seeing street though, where's the park and trails?

    Much better!

I think that's my problem with fixed freestyle James, when Hoffman first slid a handrail on a bike it was something genuinely new. That video of a pedal pick down a rail on a fixed is certainly impressive and whilst it's pushing fixed forward it isn't pushing bike riding forward in the way that a lot of fixed devotees claim.

Having said all this if people are having fun on a bike of any kind then that's amazing but there's a limit to what fixed can lay claim to. (including the wallride that started this thread...) Yes I am a miserable, old, shit BMXer/roadie...

    Trails would be hilarious, et-a-rama...

I think the way its going, its probably moving towards a blend of fixed flatland stuff, and bmx street tricks/gaps/etc.
Personally i'm pretty excited about the upcoming empire fixed film, there is some pretty wild shit going on in that, rumours of a 16 set attempt captured on film where the guy pretty much totalled half of his bike haha, amongst some other pretty mad stuff, apparently tom la marche and tony fast both got pretty smashed up trying some big stuff for this film, toms most recent injury was from filming for this I think.

  • I wanna see some fixed stuff on Danny Way's mega-ramp... ?

Indeed I don't think we are ever gonna see decent trails or much more than "nibbling" at the park on fixed, but there is/will be some sick stuff going down on street I reckon :)

Skip to 4.00 of this video...

YouTube - ORCHID BMX - STEP ON IT PT 1

  • he so nearly had that

  • That was an impressive gap, but those guys ain't got shit on the metal bikes crew when it comes to stupidly big and crazy gaps.
