  • Hey guys, I've got a bit of plan running through my head at the moment.. Basically part of my family is Irish and they come from Ballingarry near Limerick and I've only ever been to Dublin and the surrounding area.

So, at some point in August I may well take a long weekend, fly over to Dublin (spend the night) then cycle out 140miles-ish to Ballingarry and stay the night there too. Then the next day I can roll 20 miles to Limerick get a train to Dublin and either stay another day there or just get a flight back that afternoon/evening.

So, my proposition is this: would any of you guys be kind enough to accompany me for a spin around the city or even put me up on a sofa for a night in August? Failing that a good recommendation on a bike friendly hostel would be lovely.

    Cheers, Will

  • You can kip in my spare room if you want, and aren't a psyco :p

Hit me up with a pm and we can sort something out. I'm in the City Centre, so within easy stumbling distance of everything!

  • That's a very kind offer my friend, I appreciate it :)

when I start finalising details I'll definitely give you a PM and sort something out.

  • Not a problem at all.

So long as I'm in the country (afaik I'm here all August), you're welcome to crash :)

  • Hey!
I'm from Los Angeles, visiting Dublin for a week or possibly more and was wondering if anyone has a bike i can borrow?
    Thanks so much!

  • I'll be back in Dublin at the end of August, I'll be happy to meet up with tourists or newcomers.

  • To clarify, I'm actually sitting in a pub as i write. I am here now, Tuesday, June 23rd and I'm desperate to ride.

  • Oh. Sorry about that. I'm a long way from home right now... cant help you out.

  • thanks, flickerx!
do you know of anyone i can contact who would be able to let me borrow a bike.
i contacted andy at dublinmessengers@gmail and am waiting for a response, but i want to ride now and don't have the money to buy a bike.

  • Dunno, I havent been in Dublin for a while, dont really know anyone in the courier scene to be honest. You might be better off asking on the boards.ie cycling forum - Cycling - someone there might have a fixie knocking around. I imagine (I think I would) they might want some sort of security deposit though... I know you're probably extremely decent & sound but its a big ask of someone to hand over an expensive bike to a stranger... just sayin'.

  • it doesnt' have to be a fixed gear, as a beater bike would be just fine.
thanks for the link; i'll check it out!

it's funny, because in la, people are really kind when it comes to letting people borrow bikes. if they have an extra one, they'll let you ride it... even crash on a couch if you needed.

  • I'm sure some people will be nice like that in Dublin but even in LA not everyone would give a bike or a place to sleep to a person they've never met.

Also, thanks for hijacking my thread :)

  • sorry.
    back to wibble's topic!
(p.s. not everyone in la, but it wouldn't be hard, especially if you go through me.)

  • To all who are looking to ride im always up for it, my number is in the names and numbers thread.

Meandmybluebike I would lend you my aux. bike but its in quite bad shape at the mo and caused my brother an accident recently when he borrowed it.
    Though i will ask around.

  • sorry.

How does a 56cm Fort sound to you? I don't get much chance to ride it during the week anyways?

  • Shit... Just saw your other post and I'm guessing a 56 would be too big :(

What's worse is the missus' Bomber Pro is sitting on the ironing board waiting for parts and it would be right up your alley :(

  • damn i would love a big community ride. why dont we do it ? my number is 0862085014. any takers

  • would be awesome if there was a little ride and some drinks when I came over.. nothing is finalised yet but I'm thinking along the lines of coming over on the 7th August, doing my ride to Ballingarry over saturday and sunday and the either heading back sunday afternoon or spending another night in Dublin (if TinyExplosions will have me twice) :D

If there was a chance to get in a group ride and some drinks on friday the 7th or drinks on the sunday/monday night then that would suit me down to the ground

  • The Friday evening would be good for me.:P

  • sorry.

    shit i'll be in india

  • I've noticed on internet boards when people try to organise something in real life, it tends to fall apart when some people post up "shit i cant make it" because then other people who might go read that first, and think that nobody is going. If you cant go, there'll be other occasions, but may I suggest you let other people who are going or who might go post first, to encourage others to come along.

a 56 is too big; biggest i could ride comfortably might be a 52/53.
i have truing keys, tubes, locks, 15mm wrench, allen wrenches and lights. i'm all set except for the bike.
i wouldn't mind a junker that needs basic maintenance because i could do it myself.
i would be interested in a ride this week or next, as well.

tonight: RI RA for 80's, indie, and electro. 11pm and it's free. i will be there if you want to meet up! i will want to take photos of you and your bikes to show off to my friends in la and ny, so come looking like yourselves!
