Violations + Fines (From Toronto, canada)

  • Cheers gents.

Still here from Toronto, and been watching you cats zip around. Been great time but can't wait to head home and ride.

ANYHOW, I thought I might post something comical. Was told by friends that The Toronto Police is having a cycling blitz this week and catching ppl in the act.

    What act you might ask??

Well, here are all the violations and associated fines.

    For example:

Unable to keep both hands on handlebars ---> from $8.75 to $53.75 (depending on the district you're in).

    or

    No bell (horn) – bicycle ----> 85. 00 up to 110. 00

I took my bell off after I changed bars and have not bothered since... but THAT I'll prolly get when I return on Friday.

Anyhow, enjoy the municipal ca$h grab, courtesy of the city of Toronto. Nuts.

    Cheers.

    H!

Insane. Cities trying to ca$h in.

  • Riding/**operating **bicycle (roller skates, in-line skates, skateboard, coaster, toy vehicle) on sidewalk without due care and attention and reasonable consideration for others. $90.00

Will somebody not think of the children.....!!!!

  • haha... exactly.

without due care and attention and reasonable consideration for others.

    What is that anyhow??

  • toronto is a weird town. very chill to the point of dead. kind of conservative too. people don't like their elbows being rubbed there. still a fun place to go once in a while

  • Read a blog post about this and was wanting for a thread to appear: http://meslin.wordpress.com/2009/06/23/bike-blitz/

Cycling definitely seems to be getting momentum in Toronto as there is a lot of talk of bicycle lanes on major roads such as Bloor.

  • Toronto blows.

And bike lanes on Bloor would be hilarious. Even funnier would be college. (In both cases, I really can't see it happening).

  • Ahhh... Love Toronto. Wouldn't trade it for too much more on the North Am side. But sadly, there is a conservative side of it that baffles me. And the other cities call us liberal. Imagine that?

Anyhow, lanes in Toronto? No time soon. Though there is a battle @ city hall between our mayor, downtown drivers and cyclists that will soon erupt to something worse...

Wish they would blitz drivers on their damned cell phones 1st as they pose so much more of a threat really.

  • Yeah, but that would mean invading the nigh holy sanctity of people's cars. Not going to happen in Toronto, ever. As suggested in the Globe & Mail, all the cyclists should rent cars for a week and drive instead of cycling. Would make the drivers realise just how misdirected their ire is.

  • If Kensington Market can't even be made car free, and things like the Front St extension are able to get the go ahead, there's little hope for the rest of the city, unfortunately. All power lies in the 905.

  • Hi

I know Toronto as well and I agree with Horatio.

It reminded me of London cycling in the 80s; strictly for the dedicated.

And the place is being ruined by condos.

Public Transport is still good, but it needs major re investment.
