Just lean forwards and lock your legs, it really isn't hard. And maybe start on grass or a gravelly street to get a feel for it.

Ouch! Ha, I'm dreading trying to do a skid. I may have to sought advice... Though I did see a pretty good clip yesterday on how to do one And to the OP. well done for doing the skid, ouch to the toenail!
