Remove light holder from front forks

Posted on
  • Hi Guys ,I have just bought an old peugeot equipe frame to convert .It has a lug on the front forks that holds a bracket for the front light. Does anyone know how to remove it without damaging the forks . I have remved the nut and it doesent seem to go into the fork itself. Thanks

  • Much better than Hippy's small time effort.

  • Yeah but I can leave mine in my flat.. you have to deal with on-street parking. Suck ma' balls. :P

  • Thanks for the replys. So would you surgest the best way is to grind of with a dremal.

  • or a metal file the old fashioned way..

Parking not a problem Mr. Dry Balls ;)

  • Oh, and yeh. Dremel FTW

  • Hi,i know what a dremel is but what is a FTW and can it cut the lug off whithout damaging the forks.I know this might seem a funny question but any help would be apreaciated as this is my first conversion. Thanks

  • FTW = For The Wanking, meaning that's what Archi prefers when self-pleasuring.

It'll just be brazed on. File/Dremel it off making sure you don't go beyond the level of the fork leg.

Nike it. ie. Just Do It!

  • Ha! FTW = For The Win.
If you are worried about damaging the forks by using a dremel then use a metal file, as suggested by Mr. Hippy, and take it nice and easy. Hard work but that'll do it.

    :)

I'm saving up for a midget of my very own, to assist. But as you seem to have cornered the market in them the price has gone through the roof.

  • Thanks Guys.

Or just leave it on there, you won't notice it after a while and your frame stays original.

  • removing the light holder?!

if the light has nothing to hold onto then the forks will drop and become heavy; no, don't do it!

    ??

  • You'll do more damage to your ears than the bike. Grinding off braze-ons makes a horrible, horrible noise - far worse than fingernails on a blackboard or a dentist's drill. Well, I think so anyway. But then, I am a big girl's blouse. :-)

  • sorry to bump this back up, but i could do with a dremel/grinder to remove the very same thing..
    anyone?
(i've hacksawed off the guides, and i've tried the heat with welders propane torch trick on my shifter bosses, but that's not working as well as i'd like (and a bit of reading suggests heat may not be the best option) so, anyone?)

  • I have a Dremel which you are welcome to borrow- no bits though so you'd have to pick some up.
