I'm English living in Scotland. There are a few arseholes for sure, but to be honest it's easier being English in Scotland than it is being English in England at times.....

Sadly people as ignorant as them are probably too stupid to realize that many Indian Ghurka soldiers fought and died for this country, that they no doubt claim to love so dearly.

Me too, and was just about to say the same thing. It gets well overstated – I've been up here for ages, often in fairly rough bits, and never had a second's bother. Are you in Glasgow? You should come out for a ride with us.

That's actually what I thought as well. Uncharitable, but true.

i hear that a lot amongst the older generation (60+). I used to hear it a lot when i used to work in a pub. The oldies you know nattering on.
I think it's something to do with the demographic changing a lot, and old people don't accept it as easily.
I don't think it's as a full on racist hatred comment as such, but yes it's still grinds a bit if your sensitive about it.

I dont really get riled when old people are racist, rather find it funny or pity them. Places like where I live I can understand it may be a bit weird for old white folk to be completely outnumbered by us brown people often speaking our native tongue, selling our weird food in all the shops and having our very own loud mouthed young yob/wannabe thug types that can themselves be very unpleasant to the white minority.

So yeah, I just pity them/their situation or snigger at their ingnorance. Sometimes I can talk em round with a bit of empathy/common ground, they are mostly not 'bad' people.

When young people are racist though, really makes me want to punch them.
