That's quite an impressive transformation. Rory O'Brien used to be my LBS many years ago.
Cool, I have met quite a few "old skool" roadies that were also local, one guy Jon reconed the first frame he got was from them and was built by Vic Edwards. Steve Sachs (sp?) took over the shop after Rory OBrien passed away and unfortunately it is no more. We had a frame of Steve's in work a few years back, that was yummy, it was a RO'B with chrome head lugs, looked sweet!
I got a "spare" set of decals through at work today for the strip and revise when it comes to it. Chipped the TT the other day, so it's already gathering "patina". Chrome lugs!... and the head transfer in the place i wanted it originally. We shall see..
What is the rim/tyre combination you have chosen?
Opted for 27x1 1/4 Weinman 36H (no hooked beads!!!) with 28-630 Panaracer Pasela Tourguards, old skool! To keep with the right looks and utilise the large clearances. (I have a pair of period Bluemels Popular mudguards in black needing some plating and stainless stays, come shit weather). Spokes were 302mm x3, so DT Comps rear.. ran out after lacing my rear wheel, so did the front x2, which meant I could use DT Revs (butt down to 1.5mm). Brass nipples and linseed oil.
Im tempted to build a pair of Ghisallo Beech sprint rims onto someting yummy for posing! More monies I don't have!! Get some "sprint carriers" and go time trialling my smoked out lungs and feebal legs! Haha.
