We need a ride wiki

  • Threads with nothing but a growing list of posts seem pointless. Hey VB, how about sticking a ride wiki on here so we can just update a single list for rides and refer to that in the threads.

Just throwing out the feature requests, mate.

  • You mean like the Ride Calendar we already have?

  • Hey - where'd the Thursday Highgate West Hill Race go?!

  • hippy, i think he means some kind of wiki where when a ride thread is started, instead of pages and pages of people adding their name to the list, there is one list that gets updated? is that what you meant stompy? im kind of imagining the same sort of set up as when there is a poll. absolutely no idea if it would be possible/work!

  • Probably. This has been raised before and I guess everyone preferred the ever growing threads.

  • This forum was built on lists.

  • and the souls of scared nodders..

  • I recall VB recommending using a poll. You just 'vote' to say that you will attend. Seems like a pretty good solution.

  • Probably would take the fun outta it but you could have a sign up sheet system for each ride that could be implemented on the forum quite easily.

    Exactly what I meant.

  • People seemed to prefer the lists.

Polls work, and roll calls work, and wikis work... but people just like sitting in the thread and editing a long list. Doesn't bother me.

  • The ever-growing lists have the advantage of building momentum and adding some excitement to event preparation. I like that it's basically like a wiki with (almost) the whole editing history laid bare. I've used wikis, too, but the problem is that there seems to be so little going on in/around them. You're quite right that they're tidier and have some other advantages, but I for one am doubtful that events would attract quite so much attention if they were organised by wiki.
