snazzy, what's with the front brake set-up?
-
• #4
wow that was Quick reply - what happening with all this code????
anyway the front brake is a diacompe caliper on one lever and cantis on the other - both on the front - no rear brakes on these - unless you use the fixed wheel mode on it............

Funny looking fixed gear, that. Why all the cogs and chainrings?
code is cause you cut and pasted it from something with it in Times New Roman.

Oh that answered my question ... now I read the post amongst the code...

[Higgins ultralite trike tricycle fixed gear wheel bike
approx - 54cm center to top on seat tube (with BB carrier as seen in pics) and 56cm ctoc on the top tube
Higgins Ultralite Reynolds 531
Frame is in excellent condition (everything is in excellent condition), this is the 2 wheel drive model with the differential – that also allows fixed wheel – by flipping the diff. – slack is taken up by the A- concentric BB – like a tandem BB.
The brand new front wheel - handbuilt - 32 BD SS spokes , one sytem ex large flange hub , one silver DRC st17 rim with fabric rim tape (very like open pro but stronger as is training / touring rim – not a racing rim – very good stuff) nice - exactly what i choose to run on all my own fixies.Everything is pretty period stuff, I’m sure there was no real standard spec for these. The whole bike is in excellent condition – previous owner kept it very nice. A few place in the paint where it’s been touched up. All cables are a matching red. I’ve never tired the fixed gear mode - it's not got the saddle shown - it's now got a white isca item450 - or swaps consideredobviously no postage but can arrange delivery personally within reasonable distance of manchester for petrol and time money- or pickup in manchester.

it has a fixed wheel option - only available on the rarer differential equipped models (not flip flop hub so much as a flip flop diff)- chain tension is taken up by a non concentric BB carrier - like a tandem.
yes DOV - it's bl**dy scary until you deprogram your two wheel riding inituion - makes you realise how much you unconsiously rely on leaning a noraml bike - beginners always end up in the kerb due to the camber
skids - yes in fixed wheel mode -
trackstands - haha ha-
wheelie - i guess soyes the one wheeler and conversion i saw - this was also on ebay - but never made the reserve - the asking price is the lower end of the 450 to 550 estimate given to me by members of the british trike association.

now this is interesting what a machine!
.. hmm the credit card's twitching again in the pocket..
I'm guessing cornering at speed is a good substitute for laxatives
I'm wondering if the "hub" is a screw or cassette on to change the gears to eg Shimano 9 speed? And if a screw on, it can be changed? And how many sprockets on it anyway?
I believe there's a hoooge following in trike racing nowadays- I do remember some fantastic moments watching it on the Ilse of Man a great many years ago. Unbelievable sights!
And I thought a tandem was interesting...........

cornering is scary - there's not the feedback you expect - so you need to lean out like a racing sidecar passenger or yaughtsman - but once you've got the skills you can do it. your inside leg is down which is weird and also when you're on camer you're leaning left and your mind says "better not turn right" so even though you don't want to it's like the kerb pulls you in magnetically. someone who has never riden any bike at all in their lives will handle this a lot better at first.
it's been raced at the isle man a few times.
the hub (diff) is is fixed/ free it currently has a 6 speed freewheel on and triple on the front -
