Go down the tip and pick up an old 10-speed road bike, rob bars, brakes, chainset, front wheel, saddle etc. All you'll need to buy is your rear wheel and fresh brake cables

I've more or less got the same thing except ive got a few more parts floating about. I've got some old wheels, the rear of which has a shimano 5 speed (i think) casette (shortly to be removed once i got a lockring remover/chainwhip)...aaaand I was wondering - Is it worth my while to remove the old casette and fit a single speed (im too pussy to go fixed yet) cog with spacers...or should i just invest the money in getting a new rear wheel - probably with flip/flop hub so I can chop up to fixed once I'm ready?
I've also currently got a single 46t chainring on the front - so I figure I can keep this in the interim, maybe (read: definitely) upgrading down the line.
Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

I got a BMX and just wondering if any parts will fit?? I am sure I have seen someone using BMX cranks!?
My bike has 3-piece BMX cranks on it - works fine, though needlessly heavy.
You might need extra spacers for the BB (broken lockrings will work in a pinch).

Nice get a picture up of your bike!?
I wouldn't bother getting a ss just get a fg and put a brake on? I would of thought it only gets scary when you go brake-less.

Go down to your local boot sale and pick up an old racer/road bike for about £15-20.
As alot of the the tips don't let you take anything anymore. -

just go fixed. I thought about getting a flip flop but it's just not necessary. Riding fixed is fine and will feel natural after an hour's riding on quiet streets. I now feel more comfortable riding fixed than on my geared bike through traffic as i feel I have more control.

Much like a car then, when a cars in gear you have so much more control than when its coasting..

yeah...maybe i will - on the plus side it saves the hassle of f'ing around installing a back brake...on the negative side - the days of coasting down hills will be gone...
back to the rear wheel thing...should i keep the old dunger wheel and install a cog with spacers or spend some more and get a new rear wheel with proper fixed hub installed? If I do this i'm guessing i need to screw around with my front chainring to achieve good chainline...also i know if i get a nice rear wheel i'll want a nice front one to match...

kentish town recycling centre is a good spot for free bikes, not always but i've had a couple of good uns from there. Driving round in mah truck i see at least 3-4 perfectly good donor bikes at various tips etc a week. Would pick em up more often but the flatmates won't have it. Just keep your eyes peeled and check skips etc
or yeah, just go down a car boot and spend a tenner. i'm too cheap for that tho
