I did look, hippy, but sometimes people lurk for a while and only get out the Nursery some 3,000 members later. What's up, phi_pp?

I'm such a muppet. I had edited my options to have new posts first (on top), and I was trying to figure out why the last page had dates from 2007 until I clicked on the first page....
....epic fail on my part eh?Anyway, I am selling my jump bike to get a nice fixed bike. However I do not know where to begin so any help would be fantastic. blushes terribly as a newbie
I'm from NW London, and I was told to join here by David after lurking for a while! :)

Hi all,
Another newbie here, been riding in London for about four years, and converted to single speed about eight months ago. I started off with a lovely vintage peugeot, the white bike in the attached photo.
Sadly, the poor thing's bottom bracket frame screw thing - yup, I'm really mechanical - lost its threading, so when the bottom bracket went, I had to chuck the frame.
So, I decided to change my image a little bit, lose the 70s cool and go for some pure 80s rudeness in bright fluorescent yellow, Ana Maria :-D Which I like photographing to prove to my family that yes, I'm still living in London and yes, I'm still cycling, hopefully explaining why there's a photo of the palace in the background ;-)
I've nearly stopped falling off my bike when drunk, although have a few fun scars to show for it, and my boss has given me the ultimatum: either wear a helmet, or pay for key worker insurance myself. So, wear a helmet, try and cycle fast around East London, and only so far got told off once by a nice Policeman when going through a red light on London Wall.
Job done :-)

What gearing are you running. Looks too big to be LondonSpec(tm).

87".. that's way to high unless you regularly travel at 30mph or prefer a cadence of 65rpm.

For riding about some of the city it's a bit awkward, but for sprinting down The Highway, I do get a bit of a kick overtaking cars as they slow for the speed cameras ;-)

Hey All,
Im new to the forum, and London. I've been in the city for 5 months and been cycling for 4 of them. I rushed into buying a low end hybrid bike at first and I regret it a little bit now. Now Im looking to build my own Fixie. There has been loads of helpful information on this forum, and I haven't needed to ask a stupid question yet...

Hey all,
been riding SS for a while, yet to make the full jump to fixed but hopefully that is coming soon.
Currently riding a blue SS conversion/death trap (see attached photo) after my other bike disappeared under a taxi last week.
Found this forum when I was looking for info on the conversion. Search function has proved very helpful so far!
If anyone sees me on my daily commute between Brixton and Wapping then holler.

Hello,
Been in London for too long, and have ridden on and off since I can remember. I’m currently spinning a badly converted singlespeed MTB around the (mostly southern) streets but hope to get the money (and knowledge) together to build a “proper” one. And yes I can use the search function.
Cheers -

Hey all,
new to the forum, found it while looking for info to convert an old mtb frame. I was wondering if anyone knows if 700c wheels will fit or if I'll just have to stick to 26" rims -

Hi,
Finally got round to introducing myself. Live in Stoke Newington, commuting daily and riding a tandem most weekends, is about the extent of my cycle experience, though looking (trying to find the motivation) to do more.
Thanks to all: you saved me from GumTree-stolen-bike-immorality and UniPac fail, (some people do UTFS and JFGI) and directed me to cheap Fuji Track goodness.
You'll have to imagine a picture of a stock Fuji with added brake here.
Thanks again, happy cycling.
