My helmet probably saved me from very serious injury when I came off earlier this week.
But, I can't remember what happened; although the evidence points to my being hit from behind - so I'm not sure if my wearing a helmet contributed to a driver not being as careful around me as he/she should have been.
People who complain about helmets and adverts really are looking for things to complain about.
