They are trophies of a kind... they show participation. That the ride wasn't an alleycat doesn't reduce the worth to those who earned them by riding.
They can also show support, such as the ones for Eilidh's memorial ride.
And yes they're probably fashion too, but that doesn't give someone else the right to be a cunt.
