I'm pretty sure there are products with which you can waterproof (to a degree) bags.. Google is your friend.

i would assume that an actual bicycle courier's bag would be waterproof, but i think that that would cost much more than the one you got.
how about a bin liner inside it?

And in the Black/Green version there’s also a grab handle and a showerproof lining for extra grip and protection!
:)

Yea, I read that bit but it's not clear is it? Do they mean the grab handle is waterproof, the inside of the bag, or the outside?

I use one of these, is comfortable until you put a laptop in it, then it fucks ur back good and proper, but thats the same with all laptop bags. I have filled mine to the top its very comfortable if packed correctly. However IT IS NOT WATERPROOF at all. I reccomend wrapping stuff in bin liners inside the bag.

Send it back and buy my Timbuk2, which is waterproof and in very good condition. Same colours too. £30

I've got an unused laptop slip from a crumpler, fully waterproof they say, fits up to 19"... 15 quid?

Bang an Ortlieb inside it. They make them in a few different sizes.

Emailed Pakuma and they said that it's not waterproof but water resistant. Looks like I'll be returning it. What a waste of time!

try a googleing a product called tx-10 by nikwax i think
use it like washing powder in the machine and it gives jackets bags etc a waterproof layer
no experience of it myself but there might be someone who has used it
Hi, just got my new Pakuma Choroka K2 Messenger Bag.
http://www.laptopstuff.co.uk/p/Pakuma_Choroka_K2_Messenger_Bag.htm
It appears to be OK. However, I've read the tech spec for it on several sites and it doesn't appear that the bag is waterproof.
I made the erroneous assumption that a bicycle courier bag would be waterproof and so it looks like I'll have to return it.
On the other hand, am I being overly fussy?
In all other respects it looks like a good bag with all the features you'd want.
