  • That is us, Anything made post 1998 is us. In fact we still make those cranks on our current models, Please see http://www.onza.com/v2/products/2009/rip/rip.html

  • We are always interested in Niche products but as pretty much newcomers to the wonderful world of fixies, we haven't a clue what Polo specific products might be. If you can flesh out your question with some more specifics and details we are happy to look into it.

The main stuff people would be after would be burly frames/forks and very low geared drive trains.

Where are you based? You should come down to polo one day and chat to people. I know that BAD are (allegedly) getting custom polo bikes built by their sponsor, but there are still some great teams around if you want some test riders.

  • We are based in Nottingham and I don't think it has reached us yet although I will enquire. Joe is in charge of sales and marketing and should be in London in 2 or 3 weeks so I will see if he can arrange something. We already do low geared stuff for trials which perhaps could be adapted.

  • Well, this is what grass polo bikes look like:

I think that hardcourt players would probably be after something halfway between that and one of the "fixed freestyle" bikes (i.e. like the Charges that various people have been riding). I think it would be possible to build a frame that satisfied both sets of riders actually.

Oh, and git it extra long track ends, because polo gears are a bitch for more than about 6 miles (yeah, yeah, DT does 400 miles a day on a 17" gear, etc).

  • Was this frame made for the purpose of playing Polo or is it an ultra short wheelbase Track frame adapted for Polo. Also is the fork a negative rake or is it just the photo? What sort of gear ratios are typically run?

  • that old grass polo bike is a little extreme for what we call hardcourt bike polo (also know as urban bike polo). straight forks would be fine providing there was no toe over lap. bar spinable is best too for most i guess.

    check this:

and typical ratios are about 42-48 gear inches. bikes need to be tough, rims especially. cranks are 165, maybe even 160. a lot of people are trying bmx crank set-ups too for the compact drive trains. um... yeah, hope that sheds a little more light. 3, 2, 1, POLO! :D

  • Just a pic of the UNO in Orange too.

  • Looks good in Orange...

  • yah. pretty good!

  • really like that blue one. probably just nicer than the charge plug and i spose that's it's nearest competitor of sorts. possibly says 'onza uno' a few too many times on the bike but it looks nice on the top tube and it all comes good with that barber's pole headtube, never seen that done before- pretty sick.

  • They look like nice OTPs! Certainly gonna be strong cos of the trials background etc. I'd have one if i wanted another fixed.

Onza-uno, are you Mike or Rob? Or who are you? (i'm on trials forum too if it's mike or rob, hey!)

  • Yes its Mike. Joe also posts on here under this name as well. I don't know about Rob? We haven't got one as far as I know. We have another interesting little prototype under development here which I will post pictures of in a few days. I would like to get some feedback on the idea.

  • I didn't know you can get Araya rims for your bike here.

anyhow I think it'd be a very wise move to ask some people to test out your bike for says, a months of heavy riding, just to ensure it to be reliable and durable for the London road, and if it can deal with London, it should able to deal well in other countries, the Charge Plug have some good review in America already especially with the weather being a little worse there.

getting feedback from a rider who's testing your bike would be a better move IMO (most especially to polo player, as their bike tend to depend on durablitiy).

  • Good idea Ed. Was Velocio not in talks with people about arranging bike/equipment tests etc?

  • "as tested by the LFGSS"

"no bike has ever pass the LFGSS test"

  • You could take pictures (aslong as they don't rip of trips bike).

  • All prototype bikes should be delivered to the Scolt Head/North Church on Tuesday and Thursday nights, to be fought over by polo players.

  • Well props to Onza for coming on here and getting some feelers out - looks like a cracking first effort to me, and Onza has always been a quality brand - in fact i run a Mongo headset at the mo, and its tough as teak.

  • Thanks for all the positive comments. We will be looking for people to test prototype product over the coming years. As anyone who knows us on the Trials forums will confirm, we are very pro active and do a lot of prototyping. This is a new market to us and we are just feeling our feet at the moment, but I am sure we will be looking for testers. The Deco is now on the way and should be in the shops in 3 to 4 weeks.

  • hi guys/first post/just joined tonight/ive got an onza uno/on the whole a pretty good bike/a few things im not happy about/main one being the brake boss on the forks being welded on on the piss!/and why is it that the only place i can find replacement tyres for it is australia/surely someone nearer to us than that sells them?

  • I'm pretty sure you can replace them with any 700c tyres...

  • Replacement tyres...WTF?
