  • I honestly wasn't sure if you were serious or if this was a piss-take on the ribbing you got for running 48s? I'm still not sure..

Please see the below summary for a breakdown of the seriousness of my general life commentary:

    Very Serious: 0%

    Serious: 1%

    Indifferent: 1%

    So non-serious that its almost piss-taking 98%

  • Yeah...it's Big bones covered in meat and gravy!!!

I like meat and gravy.....speaking of which, south burgers last night were awesome, think I might have to become a regular.

  • I have been running a Shamal 16-spoke on the front for quite some time...
Even had a couple of spokes bent in the wheel after a couple of minor accidents, one being driven into by a ladys bicycle, the spoke hit a wheelnut.. and after driving with a loose spoke for about a month I got hit by a car, that bent another spoke..
With two loose spokes the wheel got a bit out of true, so I took the spokes out and straightned them up, and trued the wheel, and I still use it... I'm 15.5 stone..

The Shamal has a nice sturdy rim though..

I'm going to build up 24 spoke wheels using Milliard-hubs that I got really cheap, and Mavix CXP14's I got pretty cheap as well... I'm guessing they'll be okay.

    thought you might say that

  • Those burgers were amazing, if I had a bit more cash I woulda gone for a lamb one as well, bargain!

  • riding in london, despite what any aerospok rider might say, does not involve that word in any sense. unless you're doing 25+ you need to htfu and work harder, not buy fewer spokes.

Yeah, but who said none of us use our bikes for other things, where going fast might be desirable :-) 24 spoke wheels are light and fast, end of story!

And, anyway, it's a myth that you need to be going x mph before you see any aero benefit - you see a benefit at most speeds most people ride at. Aero wheels in a 25mile time-trial at 25mph are worth something like 1min30 plus or minus something. As your speed drops, so does the proportional benefit, but the absolute beneift in terms of minutes saved does not drop so much, and may even go up. i.e. Something less (proportional benefit) of something more (clock time) is something more than something of something (original time saving)! (Sorry, too much Yes Minister...). In other words, even someone doing a TT at a slow pace of 18mph is going to see an aero benefit.
