  • Hey,

So i have a Zonda rear wheel, it has 20 spokes and i want to convert it to being fixed. i kinda need to get a custom track hub built......

A chap in Tour De Ville suggested Goldtec but i cant seem to find anywhere on the net to get one made.

    any suggestions?

  • Mack hubs, w/ custom drilling obviously. See this forum somewhere elsewhere out there.

  • for goldtech contact betd.com or alternatively search for Royce hubs that will make you whatever you want, and are by all accounts superbs hubs

  • I have the same problem with a 20 hole vento wheel I want to change hub on.
    Found these http://www.genisysconsulting.co.uk/royce-uk/hubs.htm
E-mailed them about price but havenĀ“t got any answer yet.

    Edit: beaten by a sec...

  • Just spoken to Steve at RoadAce who builds with Royce hubs, he says to mail him with your details and he will get you a price.

  • Goldtec don't do 20h

How much do you weigh? Will you be riding it on the street? I'm 6ft tall, probably about 12 stone, but I wouldn't be comfortable riding a 20 spoke wheel on the street, especially a rear.

  • Give goldtec a call and just order a hub with whatever drilling you need. I got 24hole hub off them few years ago

  • Royce ftmfw, british (new milton), titanium axle, a lifetime warranty on said axle and a sexy anodised hue!

  • wow - thanks guys....been away for a few days and return to lots o' info.

    Gonna contact Goldtech and Roadace.

I heard that Royce hubs are mega cash though?

  • 20h for the road?

  • yeah. Surely it's safe?!

  • Nope. They explode when they contact the road. I've seen it happen at least three times in the past. Deadly stuff.

  • spoke counts are bullshit! 36,20 its all the same!

  • 36 != 20

  • ^exactly 36=20^

  • 36 <> 20

  • Handbuilt 20h @ 90kg tension vs 36h @ 90kg tension will make a difference to the stiffness of the wheel and the weight/stress on each spoke so also depends how chunky you are.

I believe lots of factory built low spoke count wheels jack the tension way up up to keep it stiff. Missus.

  • nah! thats all black voodo magic, i sprinkle fairy dust on my spokes to tension.

  • anyway why do people keep asking stupid bitch questions, shall i eat today, can i break my legs brakeless, will i die riding fixed, this call for a HTFU. just make it break it and then make it new......again.

  • Oh and low spokes and very deep rims go well together cos the rims are usually very stiff on their own and can compensate for the lower spoke numbers.

Basically read the scan of the Jobst Brandt wheel book someone posted a link to that has about 80 pages of theory on the physics of wheels before he even starts talking about how to build one.

  • i dont need to read no books to lern=)

  • Yeah.. what both of you said.

  • ah heck.

Well, i have faith in Campagnolo.

    i'm nearly 15st, 6f 3. but I'll get a hub made and if i survive i win!
