Evil, yes, sneaky, yes, small time petty internet scam, definitely, it sort of becomes a sport, see who you can charm out of 8 x 2 inch brass hinges for the shed door or 12 x M6 alloy bolts in anodised red - with a single well aimed email.
One other thing I stick in - that I suspect may help - is a (fake) email tagged to the bottom of your own email that appears to be something sent to you - that you just left there - you know like if you get an email from someone, you might see a email that was sent to them tagged onto the bottom of the one sent to you . . .
Like this: (let's suppose the company you are contacting is called 'XXXX Cable'.)

Hi there,
I am looking for a quote for the following of your products:
2200 x 4 metre lengths of XXXX speaker wire
1100 x 3 metre lengths of XXXX speaker wire
1100 x 2 metre lengths of XXXX speaker wire
These all need to be pre-cut to length and be reasonably accurate - we don't need them to be millimetre accurate, within a centimetre or two should be fine. All cables need to be in black.
The order, if placed, would need to be met by late July (currently July the 28th, but this date may change) and likely be repeated on a 6 month cycle.
All the best.

P.S can you forward me the name of who we should contact to source some samples in 3 metre lengths.
I have found a couple of places that stock pretty much what we need, I think they all do it in black.
Maldon have said they can get the order done by the 28th but pricey as always, not sure about Cambridge Audio, also
Kate said try XXXX Cable who sound pretty good as well, not used them before, they have it in black, not sure about the price
though, probably need a quote from them first.
