did you know that in russia a man's wealth was measured in salt.. this was however before the gas reserves were discovered in siberia, there are countless poems about the stuff.. the russians lament about salt and vodka every day..
in the arab world there are plenty of references about the importance of salt, a king once forfeited his land for salt so that he could taste his food again..
and in the armed forces you are taught about diet and hydration. salt (electrolyte) tablets are standard-issue if you are despatched in the tropics.
