If you could be in...

......any band - one past and one present, which would you choose and why?

Past - The Velvet Underground - just because they look like a proper Sixties band, they made a fuck of a lot of noise and yet made some beautiful, tender music too....Nico, and access to some great drugs

Present - On the balance of all things considered I think Super Furry Animals would be good to be in - they produce consistently interesting music, have a fanbase yet can still walk down the street, they are critically accepted and yet they can take the piss out of themselves, they like messing around with styles and genres, they like a 4/4 techno throwdown from time to time.....and access to great drugs

*I dont actually do drugs anymore, but I think it's important when considering which band you're gonna be in ;)

black flack from 79 until about 84/85. just pretty much living for music and nothing else. totally fucked up, bizarre period to be living in LA. it all just seems very real and would have shaped the rest of your life for good or bad.

For me the Specials were always about terry hall. Mind you that is based on prolific solo career vs one song about Nelson Mandela.

Interesting question. Trouble is you'd have to replace whoever would normally have your place, and you'd have to be able to play all the songs. or maybe I'm just being too practical

So, band from the past. The Lemonheads maybe. At least I can play all their songs :-)
