  • My Vittoria Pave Evo CGs have got a fair number of cuts in them pretty quickly (all due to glass) but that none of them has made it through the carcase (yet). My riding on that bike is all E1<->W1 though, which is pretty much worst-case for presence of glass, and they grip like bastards, roll and ride well. I supect they'll die of cuts before they wear out though, especially since I'm a non-skidder. They also cost many dorrah.

  • Cuts != Punctures
    Soft Rubber = Grip
    Grip = Cornering speed
    Cornering speed = race winning moves
    They're race tyres ffs.

    Vittoria over Conti any day.

    Oh I forgot.. latest research indicates touching Conti tyres gives you teh AIDS.

    Can you come and take mine off then please?

  • Ste_S or Continental UK's General Manager reeen should be able to help ;)

    Agreed with almost all of that, but cuts do eventually result in punctures, since they allow glass fragments repeated direct access to individual spots on the fabric of the tyre, which they will eventually penetrate. This is why, given that all else about these tyres is pretty darned lovely as previously mentioned, I shall be deflating them and supergluing the cuts shortly.

  • I rarely get p-nct-res from an existing cuts.
    Most are just a bigger piece of glass or flint than usual and pow, down she goes.
    I'm not the most dedicated tyre inspector/super-gluer.. only for massive slices.
    Anyway.. whatever.. I'm bored with this now. I've picked my tyres. I shall wait for the next tyre thread :)

    Conti for training/commute tyres
    Vittoria for race tyres

    Simples

  • Vittoria Rubino Pro for training.
    Vittoria ME* for racing.

    *More Expensive :)

  • Good luck with grip in the wet on Rubinos

    One thing Conti do right is their rubber compounds, hard wearing and grippy. For the most part Vittoria's compound is poor, but the carcass is excellent

    I'd love an Evo CX with the Black Chilli compound

  • I am not going to suggest any other rubber,but simply to ask,are you an overpaid city slicker ?,or do you just have money to burn?.Why not try some well worn caste offs from us poorer people(cycling pensioners),It is not my intention to deprive Hippy of any potential sales,but, I will sell you mine for £1.00 each,that way you will get the thrill without the punishment and you could donate the difference to the cycling Pensioners Benevolent Fund.In the meantime HAVE FUN !!!!??.

  • can i ask, anyone running Rubinos and rubinos pro, are the pros worth the extra tenner?

  • Yes.

    Next question.

  • ok, i've got one.

    what's the best way to dispose of a spent tyre, can we recycle them or should we just pop them in the bin?

  • ^if vittorias burn'em! in case of contis though, make a belt or sth else and wear them with pride :P

    does anyone knows of how to dispose of "teh AIDS" please?

  • To answer your question..
    Blah :)

    I agree. 2 punctures inside 5 miles in the pissing, thunderstorming rain has prejudiced me against GP4000s. I'm just glad I didn't pay for them.

  • what do run/trust now ftw?

  • Good luck with grip in the wet on Rubinos

    Thank you. I've been using Rubino Pros for winter training tyres for the last two years.

    I also decided I couldn't be bothered changing the cut and worn Rubino Pro on the Ribble and used it for the Dragon Ride, passing hundreds of Conti users changing tubes by the side of the road. :)

  • can i ask, anyone running Rubinos and rubinos pro, are the pros worth the extra tenner?

    They never used to cost an extra tenner. Rubinos were £8 and Pros were £12.
    Sterling FAIL. :(

  • ^if Contis burn'em! in case of Vittoria though, they won't be worn out at all and will last another 1000 miles at which point you will have worn out your bike and it needs sorting out..

    Contis = teh AIDS.

  • I think fatboyralph was running GP4000S on the Dragon and had no issues.
    But his tyres cost 3x what mine did so.. does hand scales option weighing thing

  • I think fatboyralph was running GP4000S on the Dragon and had no issues.
    He got his in strawberry and had all the laydeeez say "Oooooh, nnnaaaiiice!"

    Fixed.

  • Is it reasonable for the tyre to throw such a large and deep chunk of the body off after just one wet weather skid?

    .

    THis happened to me also, i phoned continental and they said it was becausue the tyres are soft rubber to increase grip, i had just finished touring england and we camped and my bike was left in the wet so the rubber started to degrade slightly meaning after i locked up once it ripped a chunk out.
    Continental didnt give me a refund but they did give me a pair of 4 season for trade price which worked out at about 37 for the pair.

  • Daft 'computer modeled tread pattern' - fail

    Funnily enough, I was riding back in the wet the other day and I had bloody good grip with the "Daft computer modeled tread pattern".

  • Lack of grip = lack of riding skill (or teh AIDS). :)

  • ^

    I lack spades worth of riding skill.
