I'm more terrified about the thought of having your feet jammed into cages. Much harder to get out of them than unclip, IMHO.
depends on the situation, for tricks clips and straps FTW, clipless is very dangerous for tricks.

i run flats without straps.
i have some clips as well but to me there is no difference and flats are more practical for riding day to day -

Well that'll teach you for going to a gym! Keep it on the road and you'll stay fit.
i read soemwhere on heree that riding fixed loses some of your leg muscle mass due to your knees taking so much of the loadand you need to cross train with running to maintain it....?

ok, then. anyone got ideas on a setup to start off with. what are the advantages of one type of pedal and cleat opposed to others, or is it all good old personal preference.
Bare in mind that you will be applying more upwards force to the pedals on a fixed than a bike with a freewheel. Also things can get a bit messy, should you unclip unintentionally. I have eggbeaters on a geared bike and love them, but they would'nt be my first choice for my fixed (where I have quattros for better connection).
MTB set-ups are good for walk-ability, putting feet down at lights etc. as are touring style set-ups (road cleats but shoes have extra rubber chunks for walking). Cages allow you to wear normal shoes. So its down to personal preferance I guess.
Time Atacs seem to be the most popular clippless chioce on here though.

Little bit floaty, but lovely to look at.Got a pair of those myself for a new fixie, but it turns out they're faulty :( They don't fit properly into the crank.. like they are loose.. have to get a new pair from the shop, however I've started to question my choice of pedals. My bike is green and the color of these pedals doesn't go very well with it. Anyone had any experience with the Look Quartz Polymide pedal? What kind of cleats do they take? Would it be too much to ask if I wanted to use the Crank Brother cleats (so I don't have to change cleats everytime I take the other bike out..).
Cheers!

So you are going to change your pedals because that tiny blue spring doesn't go with the rest of your bike?
Don't be such a tart

+1Surely you can't see the spring when you're clipped in? Actually, you can't see the bike at all when you're riding it, so maybe we should all reassess what we spend on aesthetics...

Can someone help with toe clip sizing please?
I'm a size 7, would i need a small or a medium?
Thanks in advance

depends on the clip and the shoes you usually ride in. you decide.
consider toe overlap with the wheel though, because it can be whack with toe-clips.
also a biggish clip is more annoying than a smallish one.
i'd personally go with the smaller of the two options i'm considering for the above two reasons.
i ride a small soma (comes in only two sizes though) and i have a 6.5/7 foot

Hi to you all. This double toe strap notion is a resurrected relic from the past.Like the FIXATION with FIXIE(Fixed Wheel),it was a Track & Time Trail notion to overcome slipping straps, often caused by the PUSH-PULL associated with the real power merchants and the use of BIG GEARS on the track. It is likely to become a serious fashion fad/money spinner. All it will take,if not already in the pipeline is for somebody with more money then me to take it to China and have a Zillion made for not a lot of Wonga. If you want to have the full outfit go for some Lyotard Platform Pedals;they have a flip lip on the back edge, for rapid engagement,Traditional Shoes(Vittoria,Vega or similar with nail/screw on aluminium plates.Oh,by the way, being strapped in with a single strap is scarey, in a panic situation double is almost certain to cause a change of underwear & a hose down at the nearest garage!!.
