  • If the riders in the Race across America can stay pretty much in this position for 3000 miles....i reckon i can ride on the top of my drops for over an hour without problems :)

  • Do some work. x

  • If you're posting, you ain't working either. :)

  • I can't believe you're gonna take a vintage Marin with original Zolatone paint in such good condition and hack off the guides and spray it white!

did all i could to save the paint believe me but there's about 16 inches of rusted seatpost bonded to the steel. preliminary careful attempts with caustic soda still ended up ruining a lot of the zolatone.

i'm all for saving puppies on top end road bikes of yesteryear but pretty much every paperboy in england had a palisades trail.

there's a guy on retrobike who has restored one of these to better than original (ti bolts etc etc.) one look at that and i knew i wasn't going to get anywhere near to that quality.. when it's done i'll ride it and enjoy it so i'm not bothered if a few puppies die along the way.

  • I never really use the drops on any of my bikes, but i love the shape of drops on the tops and over the hooks....and before anyone says "why not use pursuit bars then"...they're a totally different shape to the top and front of narrow drops. :)

I suppose the tops of the bars on the Merckx give a similar riding position to riding drops on a track bike? Or has my imagination failed?

  • Did anyone here anything then?
    ;)

  • The Lavoro - all built for t'track and used on t'track

  • Do some work. x
    How very perceptive of you.

  • How lo can you pro?
Made a couple of changes to the Merckx...swapped the risers for some 36cm Black nitto's....prefer the look of drops on a lo-pro...just looks 'right' to me...also swapped the Arione saddle for a flite...all that's left now is a tyre change and new pedals when i can afford them and i'm done. :)

    fucking nice.

    death row,

    Oh yes...

Currently sitting on our ironing board...

Parts being delivered from Japan by the missus' father within the next month...

Pictures really don't do it justice... it's feckin' lovely... Still a little bit chippy so it may be up for a re-spray but the colour really is beautiful in the flesh...

  • this has just gone to chris (lsf) to have almost everything cut off it (including stuck seatpost) then frame and cranks powdercoated white.

going singlespeed so need a chain tensioner (paul etc.) and bits for back wheel.

if i could only win some northern alleycats... i hear they give out flouro wheels as prizes.

I have to agree with Scot ...

  • Bought this beauty yesterday.
Frame is 60cm, which should be way too large for me, considering that I am 1,73cm...
Anyways, tried it provisorily with 27" and it seems to fit?
Maybe it´s just my brain telling me that it fits, cause I want to ride this bike sooo much?

Bah, need to get the right tyres and try out again...

See now Ed, this is where you've got them mixed up again....this is where you should be using 'lust'! :-)

  • I had the Palisades, but the first one which was lighter grey, '88 if I remember correctly

  • There was the light grey normal paint in approx 86. (my dad had the pine mountain from that year)..then the light grey zolatone in approx 87-88..then dark grey zolatone after that.

The light grey zolatone was really tough but a bitch to clean oil off...which i guess is the main reason they darkened it :)

  • Looks familiar.. Bristol downs?

    That's Victoria Park in Hackney

  • Finished! well, almost. The front fork is still too long being for a 700, but for now i'm happy :-D Wooooo.

  • Fork may be too long, but the head angle doesn't look too bad...or the BB height, so i'd say if you're happy with the way it rides, leave it as is.
My slo-pro is wayyyy slack with it's 700c on the front, but i still love it. :)

  • that's is such a sweet frame and a nice bike !

  • mines got a 700 up front as well like it just fine

  • scuse the camera phone pics...

new black jag stem, black tee-19 bars and thomson seatpost now.. on the hunt for full gum tyres and need to do new graphics (she's a condor)

  • very nice
