I can't believe you're gonna take a vintage Marin with original Zolatone paint in such good condition and hack off the guides and spray it white!
did all i could to save the paint believe me but there's about 16 inches of rusted seatpost bonded to the steel. preliminary careful attempts with caustic soda still ended up ruining a lot of the zolatone.
i'm all for saving puppies on top end road bikes of yesteryear but pretty much every paperboy in england had a palisades trail.
there's a guy on retrobike who has restored one of these to better than original (ti bolts etc etc.) one look at that and i knew i wasn't going to get anywhere near to that quality.. when it's done i'll ride it and enjoy it so i'm not bothered if a few puppies die along the way.
