Sizing for 24 inch frame

  • going to flip flop this bike, but no clue as to what

    type/size of chain
    bb
    crank
    stem

to get, are these pretty universal size wise?

  • None of those items are at all universal. You need to narrow down what you want to do with the bike, how it was made and what other components you want to put on (such as standard or oversize bars in the stem). Also, 'correct' crank and stem lengths depend on your own proportions.

  • What do you mean:

    • 24" frame size / seat tube lenght or
    • 24" wheels ?

I guess it's the last one.

Look at some bikes that have been around for a while. Check these specs.

I worked out a 24" road racer for Giant some years ago. I can check that one again, if you like.

Note that there are several versions 24"

    • MTB 24" = ETRTO 559mm
    • ETRTO 520mm
    • ETRTO 540mm
    • and more.

On race bikes you will find 520 and 540 mainly. Different for each brand.

    So:

    • rim diam
    • tires, tubes
    • handlebars (width, drop, ITM had some nice ones if I remember well)
    • stem length (Look Ergostem !!!)
    • crank length (check what Miche offers, this is The Standard)
    • chain ring(s) and cassette sprockets (nr of teeth)
    • brake lever size / reach. Special small versions (rare) or adjustable reach (like some Shmn types)
    • saddle (Selle Italia Junior, Selle San Marco Concor Junior)
    • depending on SS or geared: length of chain stays. For geared bikes, you need a certain min. length for proper shifting.

    That's about it.

  • thanks for the info, its a 24' in frame. but i can get on that it seems that theres a million variations on the singlespeed theme not sure which is right for me.
