  • Haha!

    Vowels FTW!

  • Where's Platini?

  • So your local hospital examines bikes and dishes out legal advice too - excellent!

Go to your local CAB - no, not taxi firm, Citizens Advice Bereau - and let them advise you how best to deal with it. They will probably even ring the shop up on your behalf.

  • the doctor i had used to work for them, lol
i thought tht at 1st and he said he worked for them etc etc... cheers :P

  • tlk prprly and tell us which bike shop it was. Sounds more like a job for trading standards than citizens advice. I'd definitely take the bike to the shop where you bought it and tell them what you've learned on here today i.e they where either drunk or on drugs when the sold you that bike in that condition, explain the sproket has been slipping and the lock ring will not tighten itself. If they still dont fix it write down information like where you bought the bike (adress, telephone) the problem (whats happened to your bike and your injurys) and what the bike shop have done to fix the problem for you then call 0845 404 0506 and launch an inquiry, they might even give you some legal advice. After all that if its still not resolved go to citizens advice and ask about legal aid.

or just chuck the bike in a skip and move on... your call

  • ok,
well i went down there the manager is not back till thursday so he cant do nothing.
    i have called CAB
and waiting for them to get back to me...

    the bike shop is

    CHAPEL CYCLES
    N1 Center

    DONOT USE THEM!!!

he also said theres nothing wrong with the lock nut "its tight"
so i have NO IDEA what it is,
all i do know is its a bloody death trap!
maybe a faulty hub??? i dont know

    any ideas?

  • Pictures.

  • yeah the sproket... when you put alot of tension on it seems to slip...

Sounds like the hub has threaded.

The threading on fixed sprockets (like quite a few other bike bits) is designed to tighten under load (pedalling). If your hub is of very poor quality, its threads may have been rounded/removed.

Which would mean new hub. But I would'nt bother rebuilding a unipack wheel, so new wheel. Given that you seem to need a few other things too, and the cost/time involved in fitting them. I'd just buy a new bike. Sorry

Have a browse of GA2G list for ideas.

  • cheers,
p.s bike shop is otherwise known as s&s cycles chapel market

  • Sounds like your up dawson's creak without a paddle.

  • Must spread rep.

  • I'm still not sure how a slipping lockring would make you fall off causing the damage you outlined in the OP? I know unipacs are a bit shit, but this sounds like an amazing amount of damage for a crash:

    one buckled front wheel
    bent handle bars
    out of line steering
    no front brake
and 1 and a half peddls
    ripd seat and bar tape

  • A bad workman always blames his tools.

  • Did you have a front brake before the crash?

Have to say, S&S Cycles on Chapel Market (it's not in the N1 centre) bit dodg, IMO.

  • bike seemed to be perfect front brake and everything. its not serious buckle on the wheel but enough to feel it...
considering i rolled over with it, im suprised the welding hasnt come apart

  • well got a positive result...
went down there and told him wht you have all told me etc...
and iv been told to go there tomorrow and hell give me my full refund...
so thanks to you all on your advice...
im now looking for a DECENT
single speed/ fixed gear or frame to build up... thans again

  • Glad to hear that. Get yourself something decent. There are loads of bargains to be had
